Yesterday morning I took the family to breakfast then decided to take them for a boat ride in PJ pond. It was about 9:30am so I didn't even bother bringing a rod out with us. Well you guessed it, all of a sudden I see birds working real hard and big splashing under them. We slowly crept up to the action and there were huge bass nailing bait fish. It was really amazing as the water depth was only about 5' and the water was crystal clear, we could see the bass swimming under the boat and breaking water right beside us, they were so busy with the bait they never noticed us. There were some fish in the mix that I am guessing were an easy 30lbs, and many in the 20's. My 2yro son was simply shocked.....LOL... Just my luck no rod......!!!

Don, big fish in shallow water(daytime) are extremely hard to catch. I have witnessed this in the Charlestown Breachway about 5-6 times this season. I have fished inside the Breachway for 10 years from shore and never realized the big fish that prowl that channel in the daylight. Its a shallow channel with crystal clear water and standing on my casting deck with polarized glasses I can see everything in the channel. I came across a good blitz one morning in early August and I was shocked at the size of the Bass. On shore it would have appeared to be schoolies as they were the ones splashing around the surface, but on the bottom 20-30# bass were everywhere. I have tried all the obvious plastics and metal lures but can't get the larger fish. The schoolies are aggressive but the larger fish are picky. I actually put the pole away and kept drifting over them watching thier behavior. Fun anyway! I don't agree with "big fish feed at night", I think big fish are easier to catch at night.

179, was that on the sandbar down by High Point? I was down at the State Pier in Jerusalem later in the day, and saw some activity with birds and a couple of boats through the binocs. I figure it was snappers or schoolies :smash: The pier was crawling with peanut bunker

They were over by the bridge to Great Island. It was about 9:30 when I was there. And yeah I thought the same thing at first small blues, was I surprised when I got there.....lol

That's why I always keep a rod or two (or three) in the cabin.
It has come in handy a couple of times when I take the family out for a ride..:D

They know I can't resist throwing a line in the water...
