Recently purchased an old Lathe (Delta Rockwell gap Lathe) that I have done a bunch of work on. Thought I would share some pictures of the process..

nice looking machine. That will be worth all the effort and last several more decades.

I'd love a big lathe like that.

Very nice job. It must weigh a ton and that is a good thing. I am jealous

The speed adjust lever appears to be in the "slowest position" allowing the sheave to be open. I'll bet that as you applu pressure to the handle and move it clockwise the sheave will begin to close ans increase the spindle speed.
It's an awesome machine. Nice job!

In post 3 you show a picture of the bottom motor section, if that is a varisheave like I think it is then that is bad, they should be closed when no pressure applied on them and that one is full open as the belt is at the bottom of the sheave.

Just figured I'd point it out as that's what it looked like and I know you said you replaced the pulleys I read that after.

Looks really nice. That sucker will last a long time...they don't build them like that anymore.

Nothing is dialed in yet. still waiting on a shorter belt that will drive the spindle. & the pulley off the motor doesn't have the belt on it in the picture.
