Do you guys / gals go out in the rain / storm or do you wait it out?
I'm dyin' to get out there again but don't want to stand out in the pourin' rain if there is no chance of pullin' one in.

I mean... I don't mind gettin' skunked on a nice, sunny day but, on a stormy day... Well, tha's a different story! ;)

If you do go out, do you change your lure selection?

If you don't have an enclosed cockpit, or at least a high windshield bring a pair of glasses. I was out last tuesday and those little drops of rain sting hitting your eyes at 30kts.
The fish and birds were still there though.

I don't mind the wind and rough seas but I don't care to be standing in a downpour for several hours either. Frankly I find it difficult to fish when it is raining real hard. IMO, depending on how severe the wind/weed conditions, I think you stand a better chance with plugs when it is rough then calm. My biggest surf fish on plugs have been when it is pretty nasty.

The best conditions (again MO) are what we had a couple nights ago, strong tide/moon and heavy overcast (dark) with a modest breeze and about 60 or so degrees.

The nastier the better for me, had best luck in pouring rain and heavy surf. Ice ain't gonna melt.... ;). A story from my oldest brother - man I wish I were not s#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g down beers in college during these times or else I would of been with him: Anyway, here goes:

Best fishing I have ever experienced was right after hurricane Andrew and Hurricane Felix. In the case of hurricane Andrew , within hours after the storm quelled , at Branford point ,tremendous Bluefish blitz , with bunker jumping out onto short beach and then grabbing them and live lining them , had to leave after 2 hours , went through every plug,leader,spoon I had. In the case of hurricane Felix , the fishing exploded in the Cape about 3 days after the storm , 100 fish days for a straight week ain't too shabby , I'm talking Gator blues and 30 lb stripers chasing miles of blue back herring washed in by the storm right in the surf. Hurricanes are a fisherman's best friend , that and a good knot!!!. Hurricanes tend to blow the smaller bait fish right to shore , after not feeding a couple days in the turbulent ocean ,where do you think the big bass and blues end up?. Right on shore where all the bait fish are congregated, makes sense. . These are events that happen a few times each decade , take advantage of them as SOON as the storm is over , the calm after the storm is critical to be on the water , follow the birds , they will lead you in the right direction.

But getting back to snotty weather, the heavier rain, wind, surf, the better, my 02 cents. Just watch out for rogue waves if fishing breachways, just ask Specialist???

It really depends on the kind of storm and its duration. Storms that produce a southeasterly wind flow are typically better over a longer periods than storms that have accompanying northeast wind. Conventional wisdom dictates that approaching low pressure triggers feeding in gamefish.
But the beauty of fishing is that there are really no quick, blanket responses, that will satisfy questions like this one. If there were, fishing would not hold our interest very long, would it? All I can say for certain is that fishing has been good over the last couple of days - get out there.:cool:

OK, the wind is suppose to switch from the NE to the SW and blow like 40 with gusts to 55. I will make the trip to the rip tonight to check it out. If it is fishable (ie no weed) I will stick it out for a several hours...if not I will be back and watch a movie.
I don't mind wind....but hate weed every cast.
will reply when I return.... If you don't hear from me the wind blew me off the beach.

Sandman, with ya, wind managable, weeds suck - especially when you like have to drive several hours to a breachway to find it unfishable b/c of weeds - go nail them....

In mym opinion to not be fishing on either end of this storm is nuts. Here in Hull we already have some extra special feeding going on....if years past dictate anything, this is a few days to fish our tails off

Very little wind on the South Shore of RI right now. Heading down to the Ctown Breachway tonight and I'll give a weed update later.

Hey I'm not afraid of waves crashing over my head on a breachway I've never seen before not wearing korkers!:D

just got in , its naaasty out there....Fishin steep rocks w/ high surf (scary).....becarful out there this weekend

minor family crisis...could not get out. :mad: but there is always tonight.

It never did blow like they said it would, only 1 chair blew off my deck. not that bad.

HAD FISHED NAUSET LIGHT BEACH AFTER HURRICANE FELIX TIDES AM AND PM WERE DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS.BIRD AND FISH FOR MILES,MOST RIGHT IN SURF CLOSE TO BEACH.FELT LIKE I HAD DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN,EVERY CAST YOU HAD A BASS-ALL CAUGHT ON CASTMASTERS.FOR 3 DAYS STRAIGHT 2 TIDES ONLY CAUGHT ONE BLUE.IF YOU WERE IN SHAPE AND YOUNG YOU COULD HAVE WALKED ALL THE WAY TO MARCONI FOLLOWING ONE SCHOOL OF FISH.BY THE 3 RD DAY I HAD TO CRASH ON THE BEACH.ALSO HEARD OF A NOREASTER AT WATCH HILL WHERE WAVES WERE OVER FRONT ROCKS AND GUYS WERE STANDING IN PARKING LOT TAKING 40LBS.

yeah c-ratt almost took me OUT, we'll be there next weekend genttlement, leette me know if you need korkers - may have extra pair.... tides r perfect...
