even worse ... according to a recent poll on creditcards.com, 27 million americans will borrow money to heat their homes this winter, and most of these will use their credit cards to do that.

we're f*kked.

Buy CITIgroup and BOA stock.

But it sux that we have see a portion of our society resort to using loan sharks to get basics like heat.

this is happening during a time when technology has invented insulation
that is 100 times better than insulation in the average home

I just showed my latest oil bill to my wife yesterday and she almost fell over. I used to constantly tell her to watch what she set the thermostat at because of the oil prices, but she never listened. She thought it was o.k. to have the house warm enough for tee shirts and shorts year round and kept the heat high when she went out for the day. Now that she actually saw what it cost to fill the tank, I think the reality set in. She turned the heat down to 68 degrees and put on a sweatshirt and fleece running pants. I should have shown her the bill years ago. Frankly, I'd be fine with the heat set at 65 degrees, but I feel like I won a big battle here, so I'm not complaining.

My poor co-worker. She is approaching retirment but she is raising several grand kids on a single income. She purchased 100 gallons for damn near $340, and it won't even cover her for the entire season.

This problem is only going to get worse. There's going to be alot of frozen pipes this winter if we get a deep freeze.I really hope the weather works to everyones advantage and stays mild.Sad the price of oil.The dollar bill's worth is dropping making everything more expensive that gets imported. We are in for tough times ahead.

The price of a barrell ticks me off, but know what ticks me off even more? It's when the price falls one day because of higher than exspected reserves, only to rise 2 days later because they were wrong, this has happened multiple times over the last year.

I 'd like to see everyone turn thermostats down between 60-65 and bundle up.I'd rather be cold than pay the terrorists.I have gas heat and it isn't any cheaper.

Yea, really. I keep the thermostat for our basement (where my home office is) at about 62. Sometimes it cycles way off and it will hit 58, which I can tell because my fingers turn blue :eek5:

I just throw on another sweater, but then again, I do have a lot of nice sweaters :hihi:

Programmable thermostats in every zone of the house. 55/60 at night in all first floor rooms, and 67 for the hours we're in those rooms like dinner etc. Sometimes the striper room is bumped to 68 if it feels cold in there-lots of glass.

Shop gets shut OFF at 3pm... on at 5am to 60 and when it feels warm we turn the thermostat down...and it's still costing me $20 per day to heat it with a 250k btu furnace.

the jump today was attributed in part to the Opec countries not being able to meet quota in 2024! THAT is plain bull%$%$%$%$ imo.

The day traders can't make money on stocks and money anymore so they are going to keep s#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g it out of OUR pockets to make their bottom lines every day. THAT should be illegal and would cause these prices to drop if they stopped this from happening.

nope ... concerns about Nigeria brought it to $100.

those "day traders" you referred to were a driving force a while ago (hedge fund speculators), when they correctly anticipated that ChIndia would be s#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g up oil.

NOW, it really is end users like China and India that are driving the prices up. Not the specs anymore.

I read a link off drudge this morning that said nigeria and the opec 2024 targets Ben is why I said that.

I follow Mass Energy about every 2-3 days. These guys have a pretty good commentary on the Ma heating oil issues. Seems to have been spot on so far since last year. http://www.massenergy.com/Oil_Prices/Oil.Price.Check.cfm

When I start seeing reports of people using credit cards to buy heating oil then that makes me nervous. This country is in trouble right now and the government seems to want to sit and do nothing.

Thanks for that link, Scott. I just checked it out and found out that I'm getting ripped off. Unfortunately, I just had my tank filled 2 weeks ago at a much higher price than they are listing on the site. I'll definitely be signing up with them before my next fill up.

That who ever owns property with dead tree's on it unsuitable for lumber but fine for firewood should work out a deal with people who want to supplement their heating of their homes with wood
so we can lessen the demand for heating oil .

As long as the guy with the chainsaw isn't in the firewood sales business and just wants to cut wood for his own family it would
be an easy way to take a wasted or untapped resource and apply it to our oil crunch.

i see places around me with a hundred cords of wood being left to rot or for the termites and ants instead of being utilized for wood fuel.

Games, games and more games.
Missed the gas meter reader man this month so they charged me an estimated use that was 2x more than last December and 1/4 higher than any month last winter.

Guarantee their playing the year end goal game and will only get 1/2 of the Bill they want from me until i get the actual use reading from the reader in January.

Whatta i look like somebodies lunch meat. :D

the first federal OCS oil and gas lease sale in the Chukchi Sea since 1991.
The agency estimates it contains 15 billion barrels of conventionally recoverable oil

Still want to tell me it's not the traders? This should be outlawed. Not withstanding the guy manipulated the market, this should not be allowed to happen or there should be STIFF penalties for anything like this. It should be outright illegal! There are tens of thousands who can't pay for heating oil etc this year and the govt lets people do this. :fishslap: :fishslap:

Diesel went up 7 cents now today on the way home so look for home heating to follow.

$120 a barrel by June.
