I think I'll be doing a walk through Friday or Saturday.

Hopefully the weather behaves for visitors and especially for vendors. Vendors invest so much to be there and this weekend is infamous for record cold and record snowstorms. Mother Nature has a bad habit of ramping up just in time for Marlboro.

The Blizzard of '05 and being stranded in a hotel, doing zero business on Sunday and very little Saturday, the show staff NOT allowing us to pack up and go home to take care of family and friends, a drive home that took 8 hours in a busted rental truck, and more, has permanently scarred my perception of fly fishing shows in late January.

Oh, and missing many quality Patriot's games. I love that too. :hihi:

The show staff has done quite a bit to make me no longer want to go to that show. I would rather drive 4 hours to SOMERSET NJ than drive 10 min to the MARLBORO show.

Same staff. But I agree, Somerset is a much stronger show.

They've really cut down access to non-profits like UTF, NEFF, and such. It's been a real hassle. I stopped going when they started charging us for a table.
The vendors where always excellent no complaints there. I just did like the way we were handled.

Just got back from the show. Not as large as in years past, seemed more geared towards fly fishing destinations than anything else. Alot more empty space than in years past. Still nice to walk around and look at some gear in the middle of winter, but the show is def going downhill for whatever reason.

I agree the show has not been very good in the last few years. I like going to cast all the new rods though, though this year the pit was tiny and hard to cast with 2 people in it. Somerset is to crowded for me because I like to just cast rods all day one after the other.

The show was a disappointment. Very sparse. I spoke to a vendor who said they might not be coming back.
So, I'll go to Somerset next year instead. I'm not going to Marlboro any more unless it changes. The reason I went is to meet the guys after a long time off the water. FishHawk

That's a shame that it got that kind of response out of you guys. As a customer, I liked the show. Not having been to it previously and since I'm not about to go to NJ, I don't have anything to compare it too. I DID get to see a lot of cool tying and oodles of gear. I got a few good deals on materials and enjoyed the casting demonstrations. Maybe in the future, they could bring the show a little closer to home with different staff...

well 5 string,i've been to marlboro since it's inception and boxborough prior.Over the last 5 years or so it's gone down steadily and quickly.Alot of the vendors can't afford the expense of the entire trip. This year i stayed overnight at the best western so i could take in the seminars and pick up some materials. In the case of obtaining good feathers, bucktails, etc. it was the worst so far hands down.I did get a couple of decent items but it was slim pickins.I'm not looking for a bargain[ok too]just quality first.the seminars were pretty good and i picked up a few"tips".The casting area was boardering on useless.they didn't "bother"to put some water in the area[a 1st].On the good side the tyers row & tyers were very accessable. If you were interested in purchasing a rod there or in the future it was good to get your hands-on and ask questions. As far as this was your 1st trip to the show and "you" enjoyed yourself then that's what counts. There are a few shows upcoming that you can get to fairly close by.The Bears Den in taunton,The Saltwater Edge in Newport R.I.,and the R.I. show in Providence.I look at it this way;Did "I" get anything out of going to these shows?Honestly, every single one of the shows I've ever been to it was worth the price in knowledge gained.
