Rappin Mikey 01-29-2008, 12:56 PM Living in Western MA (Holyoke area), I have to do a ton of traveling. In April, I tend to do just day/night trips to CT. From about mid May through the end of November, I hit mostly the outter Cape, but sometimes Rhode Island, every weekend. I either stay at relatives houses, camp, or sleep in my car. I fish from the shore or my kayak.
HESH2 01-29-2008, 02:25 PM day fish ct and ri.went on cape stay overnite in motel.sometimes fishing ri stay at house son rents.all surf fishing.also fishing days so overnite not an issue.
Rob Rockcrawler 01-29-2008, 03:57 PM Its a couple hours to the suds. I usually camp at the cape, 1 or 2 nights. 12 bucks a night, plus food and eels, probably $100 or so for a weekend. RI i usually stay at my cousins house. Damn kid wakes me up after an hour or 2 of sleep, but its worth it.

wheresmy50 01-29-2008, 07:25 PM Do you stay overnight?
Usually
Sleep in the Car/Motel/Hotel?
Truck or Motel. I try to stay in a motel whenever possible. I think Fran D. once wrote that as long as you're sitting upright, cops tend to leave you along, and I've found that to be correct.
How far do you go?
From NJ to MA
How long do you stay?
Day trips to Jersey, weekend to multi-day trips to RI/MA
How much do you spend doing this?
Not that much. I stay in the cheapest motels I can find or use hotel points saved up from work. Other than that it's gas and coffee. I pack my own food most of the time - that saves a lot of money and you eat better. Of course, when you're half frozen in you go get a hot meal.
Boat/Surf?
Surf/Kayak
Yes..Living hours from the ocean....usually camp 2 nights through a week...cost...not too bad unless you include the camper itself!!! and the gas to tow it...But then its part vacation part fishing trip so I wont complain

for 4 years I stayed weekends down in wellfoot at a campground to fish the beaches, it was about 60 miles. Cost a chitload but cheaper than a second home, maybe spent 5 grand a year but the family came too. I fished mostly surf but had my skiff with me too for the slow times and beach closure times. Can't afford it and the seals wrecked me.
nothing wrong with traveling to fish. Ya just have to make plans and do it.
Rockfish9 01-30-2008, 09:46 AM In my younger days, I traveled up and down the striper coast, from Plum Island (Mass) to Sandy Hook, sleeping in the camper by day and fishing by night., always in search of "blitz".... And when the weekend or vacation was over, I drove back with all the other "tourists" to rest and recover all week...
Now that I'm older and a little wiser, I tend to leave the traveling to those less fortunate or more adventurous, I've learned something that Dorothy and Toto learned from their adventure... there's no place like home... the fish may arrive here latter, and leave earlier, but Garrage to boat is 30 minutes,my own warm/comfortable bed and hot shower just a short drive from the fishing grounds, if I dont want to fish the boat, I can be standing in the suds or rock hopping in the same amount of time..... I spend more time fishing productive tides and moon phases and less time aggrivating the calcium in my shoulder joints... And when my traveling cohorts retrun from their exhausting chase... I simply tell 'em.. ya shoulda been here last night!......
EarnedStripes44 01-30-2008, 11:07 AM Don't have to travel much, less than 10 miles from the ole fishin' hole (surf).
EarnedStripes44 01-30-2008, 11:11 AM I used to live in Atlanta, GA. When I graduated from college, I returned home for the surf. Surf fishing accessibility was more important than job security for me.
BassDawg 01-30-2008, 01:45 PM I was curious how many of you guys travel to fish?
YUP, from NH to SOCO and this year I plan on expanding to PB and OOB, ME.
Do you stay overnight?
Depends on how far away from my NShore apartment i venture.
Sleep in the Car/Motel/Hotel?
Mostly always, car when in SOCO. If I arrange a weekender in RI i have family in NPT and JMSTN.
How far do you go?
Answered above
How long do you stay?
Depends on tha FEESH! On average, the farther away the longer the stay ~around a day or two. At the least "overday", since I'm surfcasting at night.
How much do you spend doing this?
More than the wife will ever know :uhuh:. usually just eeeeels, gas, and meager eats; although i am hooked on diner breakfasts after an allniter of chasing stripers, depending on where i am, they can be costly.
Boat/Surf?
99.9998% Surf. I did hit the waves last year, once during the fall run with a nice boatman i met at WKPG B&T. The weather failed us before we hit the Naps..............maybe next year, more often :usd: :usd:

The most difficult part for me regarding travelling is where to be when, and how to maximize the window i've set aside for that particular place. And that is the second most difficult part. With more places to feesh, and more spots ~~where, is a much tougher solution.
The positives are the increased amount of peoples you will meet, the amount of water that you will encounter, and MORE SPOTS!!! Sometimes there are TOO many to choose from. But I LOVE this Striper Coast of ours, catching or not, and the only way to experience a majority of it is to take your show on the road :bl: :bl:
Good Luck, ZacS, and if yer ever up tha NShore way for sum rockhoppin',
shoot me a pm and i'll put ya on some striped ones :fishin:
