To all that had hoped to get over to Cuttyhunk for the Oct. trip I am posting this to be sure that all know that I will be unable to do this trip as I do not feel I can leave my dad for more than a day at this time. He did great with the operation but still can not do much for him self around the house as he is not to lift anything for another month. I hope you all can understand this and I will make it up in the spring with Two trips in June or one in June one in July. Thanks for the great fun we had at the two trips we did get in this year and hope to have more trips this coming season. Good luck to all and good fishing GB

Greg thanks so much for all that you have done on this board. Your generosity is a rare thing in this day and age. I had an absolute ball on the Cutty trips, and those memories will be there forever. I am glad to hear that your dad is doing better. Hopefully you will make some of the other get togethers this winter.

Sorry to hear about your dad...I'm sure you'll take good care of him. I was hoping to meet up with you and the boys in Cutty this year and as it turns out, I'll be on the island over the holiday weekend.

I'll be visiting the Cuttyhunk Club for the world premiere of my new video. It would have been nice to see a bunch of Striped-Bass.com folks on island as well.

I read about your intent to tackle Cuttyhunk and figured I give you my latest report. I was lucky enough to fish the south side of cuttyhunk on a rainy day with northeast winds while there was an especially large concentration of bass hanging around. Last friday a couple buddies and I trolled eels and tube'n'worm rigs in tight to the rocks and really did a number on the big bass. We took 8 fish over 30 pounds in 3 hours with the big fish being a 48" 42 pound hog, along with countless 20 pound class fish. The fish were stacked so thick amongst the boulders that I actually endeavored to break the flyrod out and and throw some feathers at them. This resulted in a fish of 34" but nothing larger. Funny how that happens, I'm still yet to master the long pole. Ive since heard that that push of fish has moved on but it might be usefull for me to note that west canapisit, the beach in front of the houses and along where the submerged ruins are, was pretty much dry, along with the pigs, which we fished only briefly. The fish were stacked thick right in the rocks cliffside. Goodluck to you.

Greg hope all is well w/your Pops. After I spoke to you this past weekend I caught 11 fish all in all. Pretty much in the areas you talked to me about. Peanuts were running around in a certain spot there and the blues/schoolies converged on them. My biggest fish was during a little touney we have with the local cuttyhunk rod and gun club guys. We took 2 of the 4 trophies and a local got a 46" fish which beat out 42" 41.5" and a 41" fish submitted by the CSA. Had a great time I also got a 38" aside from the 41.5". My back is just about coming back! I would have loved to hook up w/you but our boat ride was early Sunday morning, and it sounds like you have your hands full with you Dad.
Maybe next year perhaps? Take it easy,

Glad I could be of some help John. Who did you fish with from the island ? I think I read last year that Asa spent some time with your gang over there is that so? I did not make it over on Sunday as the winds were to blow at 20kt so I stayed on the main land side and that was good luck for four guys out for a swim check out the story on the boating forum under boating safty. I hope to get over this weekend for some cows and to work on the furnace at the house.

.... but I didn't fish w/any of the locals but they did offer. It was a rock and roll ride back to the mainland thats for sure!

Well, the Cutty Trips are all done for this year. For next year, unless things change, their are people already waiting for spots to open. Besides, they only allow 2 to go over from each town and Warwick alreay has two, kinda like Noah's Ark (OK, just kiddin')

SSX - The thing about RIGHT NOW is that there is a smorgasboard of fish and not as many people after them. More likely just the die hards as the amount of people start to put away their rods.

In the Bay, there are tons of bass & blues, with the bass tending to be smaller but still good size to be found. The bay will see fish hitting on smaller topwater poppers and the like and when the blues aren't immediately around, the bass will gorge themselves on smaller plastics nearing the size of all of the peanut bunker and silversides. Stuff like GS's stick baits, fluke, & split tails as well as other stuff like Queen Cocahoes, bass assasins, & Zoom Flukes. Tins like Kastmasters also work out well.

When you hit the beaches and ledges from the Cape to Wath Hill, the big ticket is live eels and plugs. Plugs like needlefish, darters, big swimmers are huge this time of year. Other artificials like youzuri minnows, that new Megabait swimmer, Mamo Minnows, Redfins, & bombers score well too.

The thing about the fall run is that the fish move thru and the weather can shut things down for days, even a week at a time. But when you are where the fish are, you can crank your arms til they fall off.

Also don't feel that you need to play catch up on the saltwater scene, you'll have years to work on it and don't spoil it by trying to cram a learning curve into one month (you'd go broke anyway, hehehe)

I'm IN warwick -- i'm heading to Colt State Park again on Saturday (weather Permitting) On my Little 14'er it can handle that area,,,i'm going to be out in that area for the first time in my boat,,,i fished the Jetty and Bristol Narrows many times (never on boat-Though) Now- last sunday @ Colt st prk Jetty - i pulled a bunch of huge blues--'most everyone caught enough to have a really nice Meal (lol) anywys--there was no aggresive feeding 'Blitz' your usually see when there around,,,there weren't even jumping,,,tho they were taking anything you would cast out there,,,are there always a few bunch of schools hanging out along the shallows not chasing bait fish ?? that was weird for me,,,only time i caught them before was casting toward a school feeding on ANYTHING ya toss there (lol) Is that common?? or was that a once in a while occourance ?? i'm telling you - there was an easy 70 blues pullled out that day,,,i never seen anything like it...lol I haven't hooked up with a striper yet in that area,, they aren't "afraid" of the blues right ?? never seen anyone hook up with one since about june....kindof discouraged for that area,,,,and Known better areas i could fish in my 14'er ? not to ruff,, ??
