Most value for the money, Quantum Cabo and Shimano Spheros. If you want to spend alot and get a high quality reel, then look at VS, ZeeBaas, Diawa Saltiga Z, Accurate Twinspin, and Shimano Stella.

Without breaking the bank, I think the shimano baitrunners (45/6500's) are the best bang for the buck.

penns 704Z next.

Sorry guys,
I posted this and then got busy and sick and haven't checked it in a couple days.
I was looking at both the Cabo and Spheros... I already own a couple of the Shimano Baitrunners and am looking for a solid spinning reel.

that quantum looks good but I have no history with it.

shimano spheros series is a good reel with a waterproof drag. They are upgrading them this year to an FB series, you can find the FA series for cheap if you look around

Cabo's have a great maintenance program - send it back to the factory for a yearly tune-up ($30 to $40??) and alot of times you will just get a new one back.

Shimano Sphero's is a rock solid one as well - as someone said, they are coming out with the next "upgrade", so the current ones will be blown out by tackle shops.

Shimano Spheros 8000. I have a bunch of them and they are great reels for the $$. You can find deals, but they around $100 bucks. Lot of guys here have em'.:fishin:

:fishin:I don't use spinning gear much. I do have a Penn 750 that I bought the first year they came out. Like I said I doesn't get as much use these days, some years only once or twice all season. I've caught tuna, tarpon, sharks, stripers, big blues and even amberjacks(which fight like bluefish on steroids) and it has never let me down:btu:

Always liked penn 5500 for reliability and price.

I know some guys here don't like them, but I have had good luck with Okuma spinning gear for me and my (now 11 year old) twin boys for the past 5 years.

I've also had good luck with Okumas. A charter guy recommended them to me a couple of years ago and I use them on the boat. They don't get dunked or dropped in sand and I rinse them with fresh water after every use. I haven't had any problems with either my Coronado or Salina and they both have had a good deal of use.

The V55 and V65 are good... I have 4 of them. The Quantums have a better Drag System... I only have 1 season on the V's so time will tell....
