Looking for some first hand info.....Thx moogie 02-14-2008, 09:22 AM I have two Avets. An SX and a JX. I don't believe in magging. It's not neccessary, and as a matter of fact, I believe that mags can do more harm than good. You wind up relying on the reel instead of your casting skills. Just a personal opinion. What you have to do is practice, practice, practice. Get yourself an educated thumb. If you're planning on using some type of "Braid" line on it, I would first fill the spool with mono and practice with that till you get proficient with it unless you want to spend countless time undoing your backlashes. I use mono exclusively on my Avets and get fantastic distance with them using 8 foot rods. The casting adjustments on an Avet can be tricky. It's a matter of trial and error. Moogie Rob Rockcrawler 02-15-2008, 06:12 PM I had an SX, magged it after trying it without. I wound up selling the reel . Ive got a pretty good thumb and have been able to control every reel that i have picked up, except that one. I prefer an abu with a levelwind. I did get good distance from the avet using a 2 oz sinker, but who wouldnt. It also casted a rigged sluggo well with the wind at my back, but when that wind shifted it got nasty quick. I couldnt use a non levelwind reel at night, not when there are great levelwinds on the market. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
