View Full Version : I lOVE MUNG...
Big Vern 10-07-2002, 09:50 AM Happiness is driving all the way out near the tip of the Cape, getting geared up, walking out on the beach, casting out, and retrieving a sweet mung ball. I love it. I almost didn't want to leave, but I wanted to see if I could find some more lovely mung at some other beaches on my way back to the mid-cape. Lo and behold, I was rewarded with the fabulous red weed there too. I was disappointed at the absence of the mung at one of my other spots, but at least I managed a truckload of grass on every cast. It's not mung, but it's also not the skunk. Then, I had visions of the mung/weed grand slam, and tried my local schoolie sanctuary. However, I couldn't manage any there because I had to deal with taking these schoolies to 27'' off the line on almost every cast. On old timer there couldn't even manage any mung or weed on the fly, and had to clean his line of the 34'' striper that clung to it. Even still, it was one of the most memorable mung fishing nights I've ever had.
chris L 10-07-2002, 01:10 PM hope it clears by thursday . Need to keep the NE wind down for the rest of the week , of course thats what they are calling for for the later part of the week . Maybe I should take up knitting !

Ice
thewaterfordstriper 10-08-2002, 09:06 AM i have run into some out rhode island way. that is the most miserable stuff i have ever seen. i am thinking that it is what it is like fishing in hell.:smash:
Mr. Sandman 10-08-2002, 12:54 PM when the weed at wasque shows it is like no other I have ever seen. More like a shrub then seaweed, Nasty-wirery-spikie stuff some with roots and sticks...If it shows you have no choice but to leave. When the drag starts to let out with the current you know you got some serious weed.
This consistant NE wind needs to lay down for a couple days.
Can anyone tell me the best way to mount trophy mung?...
The Iceman 6 10-09-2002, 11:16 AM Heard mung tastes like chicken?
:smash:
I like baked stuffed mung myself!...
why I sometimes I even enjoy deep fried mung!!!
Any other mung recipe's out there?...
Big Vern 10-09-2002, 11:28 AM You guys are missing out on the sushi style Mung. Easily prepared on the beach, it can really hit the spot if you've really been into the mung for a few hours, and you're tired of hauling it in. I find the piece that collects on the swivel to be the meatiest and tastiest. Just pull off and enjoy.
I've heard that it tastes GREAT with Caesar Salad Dressing!:D
Filet Mig Mung aint bad either!!!:D
I'll have to try that swivel sushi mung!!!
SOUNDS DELICIOUS!:)
The Iceman 6 10-09-2002, 01:27 PM Let us not forget in addition to swivel style sushi mung, as a complimentary sidedish to it I also reccomend gammi/owner mung from the hook, it's great when it's on the tip of the hook and that live eel is moving around like no tomorrow and you go to take the nice little clump off your hook and you end up with some mung & blood on the fingers, makes an excellent seasoning to the mung - yes a great compliment to the swivel mung....
Momma always said:
"Mung with eel makes a tasty meal!...:p
I could do without the blood though....
not only does it make a great meal but for those seeking beautification.......mung makes a great conditioner for your hair skin and nails........ yes...better than the day-spa.......seaweed wrap straight from the suds......:smash: :smash:
Can I also mention how having those little missed bits that end up wound into your spool of line can actually make you cast better next time you go fishing!.....directions...let dry and forget about..........works like a charm!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHH!!!
also makes a great hood ornament on your surf buggy! (dont ask...all I know is we had it pretty bad one weekend this summer and the crap ended up EVERYWHERE!!!!)
The Iceman 6 10-10-2002, 09:36 AM Jenn, getting "mung" in the line spooled back about 30 - 40 yards is fun fun fun, but u are right, forget about it and it goes away...
Let's not forget
Mung can be used to insulate your attic!... :d
Dried mung can be used to scrub pots & pans!!!
:D
