View Full Version : BigFish Requests Some Good Thoughts
BigFish 02-20-2008, 12:06 PM My son is in the hospital today....seems he and his younger brother were horsing around last night at their Mothers house and things got too rough I guess....my youngest either jumped on or punched his older brother very hard in the stomach and long story short, he was vomiting as a result so his Mother took him to the hospital and a catscan showed some fluid in the stomach area, possibly a little internal bleeding. They transferred him to childrens hospital this morning and currently we are waiting for a surgeon to look at him and make a determination on whether surgery may be needed to correct the problem? My guess is that it will so....I am just a little bit on pins and needles! You know how it is when your children are hurting. So if you could just have a good thought for my son....as I said....not serious I guess but I am concerned none the less. Heading in to see him in a bit.....his younger brother is guilt ridden.....I will deal with that later but these things can happen, kids will be kids and he has been told to forgive himself as it was an accident.....but as you can imagine.....he feels terrible. His older brother is none to happy with either!
Thanks for the thoughts.:o
Gunpowder 02-20-2008, 12:11 PM wow larry..... thoughts sent your way for the best outcome..... i remember when my brother and i had at it two years ago when i was 19 and he was 15. i must have really ticked him off but when he went to punch me, i turned around and he punched my back and it broke his hand instead! you right though, kids will be kids. i know i'm still one. but thoughts and prayers again for a speedy recovery for you little guy. hes gotta get better to fight another day!

Backbeach Jake 02-20-2008, 12:34 PM My best thoughts and prayers, Larry.
When I grew up the hospital staff knew me and my 3 brothers by our first names. We were always putting one another in the ER. Part of growing up that makes parents nuts. They'll both be fine and a little wiser.
Gunpowder 02-20-2008, 12:40 PM They'll both be fine and a little wiser.
with emphasis on little of course :hihi:

BigBo 02-20-2008, 12:56 PM Larry, I hope everything turns out well. Nothing worse than having a child in need of emergency care. I'll be thinking of you and him of course.
Flaptail 02-20-2008, 12:56 PM Larry, thoughts and prayers are sent for your son's recovery.
I know what brothers can do to each other. My two older brothers got BB Guns for Christmas one year and I being almost a decade younger got an indian chiefs headress complete with shield and tomahawk. On Christmas morning I kept making like an Indian brave and attacking them so my older Brother John got sick of it and shot me with his bb gun. Emergency room on Christmas morning was no fun, niether was the three stitches where they dug out the bb from my stomach.
He'll be fine and your wisdom in straightening this out sounds right on the money.
Swimmer 02-20-2008, 12:59 PM Larry very sorry to hear this. Don't have any kids but I guess this is what being a parent is all about. You know my well-wishes and prayers are being said as this post gets typed. I'm sure he will be o.k.

spinncognito 02-20-2008, 02:53 PM When we were kids, we were banned from watching The Three Stooges after my brother whacked me in the head with a hammer. :smash: I still use that as a rational for my behaviors today...
Good luck with your son. Childrens is a great hospital and they will take good care of him.
onsetangler 02-20-2008, 03:00 PM Larry, thoughts and prayers. I think back to when I was a little younger, and it is a miracle something like this never happened with me and my younger brother. He is in good hands in Boston, the finest care you can get. They took good care of me a month back. Best wishes to your family, and I hope for a speedy recovery.

Fisherwoman 02-20-2008, 04:30 PM Hey Larry sorry to hear this after you had such a good night with your presentation on making lures at the Izacc Walton club last night which was really good by the way:)
Hope all comes out OK and no surgery or anything serious needs to be done. I grew up with 4 brothers, thats all I need to say about that!!!!!!!!!!!
BassDawg 02-20-2008, 04:33 PM Sorry to hear about your youngest's condition and am hoping and praying for a quick and speedy recovery and that the doctors at Children's will take the least invasive and most effective course of treatment. May God grant you strength and peace, as well Larry. Likewise for the rest of the boys' family. God's Courage to your injured Son. And may the Forgiveness of Christ, Our Lord, find your eldest's heart.
My younger brother and i are 13 months apart. YUP! Irish twins.
One of my dad's best lines was, "BOYS! I don't care who started it, STOP it right now ~before I FINISH IT!!" which was often followed by, "For Cripes Sake, you two hellians would fight about the time of day!!!!" Retired Marine Corps Seargent and small town cop. We didn't let him finish too many of our battles :hs: :hs:.
Wish you the best with the disciplinary part of that dynamic. My bro and i fought into our late twenties. We would've killed for each other, so long as we didn't KILL each other, first :wall: :wall:........................
afterhours 02-20-2008, 05:03 PM larry- our thoughts and prayres to larry jr, the AH crew.
BigFish 02-20-2008, 05:07 PM Its all good folks! Just got home and they were discharging Larry as I arrived at the hospital! GunnySniper 02-20-2008, 05:13 PM I was going to post Thoughts and prayers for the best of outcomes, and it appears that is what happened.
My wife and I still offer up that the true healing now happens.
My brother and I were 1 year and 11 days apart, and we had times where we had our mis-haps. I once broke 4 fingers on my hand breaking his jaw when I was 17 and he was 16, complete accident!
Long story............................
They will get through it, a little time heals all wounds..................

gone fishin 02-20-2008, 07:45 PM Glad to hear that all turned out OK. I agree with you that Childrens Hospital is an awsome place. I had occasion to spend some time there with my son many years ago. I also did some mill work for the optical lab and every time I went there I came out with a sorry feeling for some horrible illnesses that they treat there. They do gods work in that hospital.

Larry, glad your boy is ok. So true about the Childrens hospital. I took my son up there once because of a lump on his hand. It turned out to be nothing, but seeing what some kids and families are going through really impacted me. It was really eye opening going there.

pbadad 02-21-2008, 09:35 PM Glad the outcome was good. Scary moments for sure. My 2 boys 21 & 16 fight like hell. Nothing serious but man you'd think at their age they would catch on. Actually It's my older son who instigates when he comes home from college. I don't know what the rules will be when he graduates in May. Seperate rooms and an iron fist!!!!!!!!!
basshunter 02-21-2008, 10:09 PM Larry, I'm very happy and relieved to hear that he was released. Maybe you (and the rest of the family) can get some sleep. That is until little fish gets his license, cross that bridge when you get to it!!!!! Anyway, many wishes until a complete recovery happens...

Stuff happens. I played football and wrestled and did some karate and boxing but the closest i ever came to being nocked out cold was from the paw of a very affectionate dog. Just the wrong move by me and her at the same time and a hit in just the right spot and I was on my way to lights out. :) You never know.
Moses 02-22-2008, 11:40 AM Larry - a little late seeing this thread but glad all turned out well. You are right, boys will be boys.

Pete F. 02-22-2008, 10:22 PM Glad to hear all is well, as one of four boys and the father of 5 children I can relate.
And could tell some horror stories, luckily none with bad endings.
Backbeach Jake 02-22-2008, 11:51 PM Glad to hear the boy is OK. They're into the hormonal years now, it'll be real tough for a while. Preach honor and duty and loyalty to them. it helps. Get them into Scouting. That probably saved my life and the lives of others. They're gonna be ok, really. Then they will form a union that only brothers understand, once they reach their common ground, but your hair will go gray in the process, but it is all worth it, have a Tums....
BigFish 02-23-2008, 04:22 AM Fred....maybe you did not notice my gray hair because of my hat.....but the beard was a dead give away! Its going gray baby.....for some time now! With drivers license time looming, I am trying to enjoy that which is still a tinge darker while I can!:conf:
