I was good to sdee evreyone Sat afternoon. Got to see Carl and Bill B and John R again and I met Schoolie Monster for the first time. Fishpart I see evryday but it was good to see him in his tie dyed Woodstock T shirt! :) Hope you guys got some at Watch Hill that night. I left about 7:30 PM to get some sleep for the head boat trip. It was a nice trip aboard the Wejack which is part of the Yankee Fleet. Caught 3 small cod and 2 dogfish. So fill me in , how was Watch Hill?

Saltheart, it was good to fish with you again, and also to meet everyone else. I'm glad to hear you at least caught some fish for you early morning efforts. We did not have to much action at Watch Hill. Conditions were the same as the afternoon - warm, bright, and no wind. John did pick a good size fish and Schoolie Monster picked up a smaller one. That was it. Bill B. and I were the last to leave around midnight.

Hey Bill did you get out again on Sunday? How did you do?

Well Salty, yah didn't miss much. JohnR landed a 22lb fish (me thinks that was the weight) and his friend (schoolie monster?) caught a 24 incher. Both on eels. A couple of us had some takes but that was about it. Carl and I toughed it out till past midnight but nada. It was great hanging out with everyone. I ended up having to cut the visit short but did manage to follow the coastline on the trip back. Started at Watch Hill yesterday AM. NADA I did see fish in the Pawcatuck River but they were out to far. Lots of bait swimming around the docks. Headed to East Beach. You would have been proud of me. I actually found that parking lot. Nothing happening there. It was nice being able to fish in summer gear. Oh yeah, having two handwarmers lying nearby didn't hurt either. I don't think I'll be seeing conditions like that for awhile. Nothing going on at Quonny(forgive the spelling). I sure wish I had brought my canoe as I'm pretty sure it was schoolies busting up something in the salt pond. After a few other stops I finally ended up at Point Judith. OH YES! I think I found another spot to had to my Top 10 places to throw my ashes to the wind. However, the surf was flat beyond belief. A couple of surfer dudes were trying to squeeze some rides out of the one foot waves(were they even that big??). I did see some birds hovering over a small patch of something(roughly 1/2 mile out). Within minutes every boat for miles around converged on the spot. After 10 mins there were still no bent rods. Fired up the buggy and headed north. Got back in Maine around 6:00pm. Decided to go in to work. You never know when I might need the vacation day. My striper season is offically over but if things heat up in Rhody.......

I'm sorry I missed meeting up with Saltheart and the rest of the guys; but in fact me and my two pals did arrive in Westerly with kayaks in tow. Thursday night we had consistent action from the rocks at the end of the Weekapaug Breachway, picking up quite a few bass and a couple of blues. But from then on, the shoreline only held a few fish for us, and so we broke out the kayaks. Near Quonny (sp?), every morning until about 9 or 9:30, the birds were on fish about a 1/2 mile out and we had a grand time chasing them around, catching bass in the mid-20s. With that, and the weather, our trip was turning out great. Then, on Saturday night, we launched into Quonny pond for a spectacular evening way back on the flats. One of us got a 34" bass on a fly rod -- in about 6" of water. I got a 32" fish not long after. We met another yaker who had a huge bruiser of a keeper strapped across the back of his boat. Great fun, though we did waste some effort casting at lots of surface noise that we later found out was caused by hickory shad. All in all -- vundoobar! And I heartily recommond kayak fishing -- without our boats, the trip would have been a lot slower.

Actually, it was Charlestown Pond that we went back in. And at Quonny, the fish were out not a 1/2 mile but 1/4 mile. Hey, I just want to be accurate here!

Glad to hear John R got a good fish at Watch Hill. Hope you got a pic John! A kayak is what we needed Sat at sunset Erik. fish were everywhere but with no surf at all to drive things in , we just watched them 3 casts out all afternoon. There were definitely some big stripers in the schools we saw. Big , BIG splashes periodically. I hate when you can see a million bass feeding but can't get to them.
Fishpart is right , we've fished several times but never when the sun was up. I love the beach in the fall. Fish or not its a great way to spend a day.
I hope to do the canal this week but then its all RI fishing till the end of Nov. I hope John put a flourescent x on that rock where he was standing when he got the twenty! :)

Sorry I had not replied until now... Still no phone at the new house...not even a phone line...

Hello all !!! Had a great time meeting all of you that stepped out to OctoberFish this weekend. Its loads of fun when you finally get a chance to put a face with a name whether that person is someone you've started to chat with very recently or have been harrassed by for the last couple years :D !!! What I found was a great collection of guys (none of the gals could make it) VERY enthusiastic about chasing fish with lines running down the side… We had people coming from Conneticut to Maine down to fish this tiny little corner of Rho Dysland (gotta learn to say it now that I live here) and the weather was great if not too nice outside. For the first time, I had the opportunity to meet Carl, Fishpart (outfitted in his halucinogenic, dessert storm battle dress fishing gear) , BillB, (Chunker of Death, Ledge Lizard) and I had another chance to fish with Saltheart before he headed north to chase cod… I already had Greg in tow for the weekend as he help #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& and my brothers to get me and the wife moved into our new home…

As usual, I was running late to the scene of the crime (just closed on my new house 24hrs before, little busy) and had showed up at Bess Eaton about an hour late with the Schoolie Monster in tow. Fortunately, Saltheart picked up both the slack and the guys and headed to Fresh Pond Rocks/Central Beach in time to get teased by large schools of busting bass 3 casts out of range. The teasing increased as the schools would shoot in close for a New York minute and scram before you had more than one cast at them. BillB aka “Chunker of Death” had a quick dance with a fish before spitting out the hook (the fish – not Bill) and the school scramed to about a ¼ mile off shore… Of course the boats were surrounding some of these schools and did not appear to be hooking up much either…

After a couple group photos (I’ll get the shots up soon), we decided to hit Watch Hill Light for the last of the incoming and the turn. Slipnot called on the way to the lighthouse with a friend of his and after meeting up in the parking lot and learning who’s who, we hit the rocks for some stripers. Watch Hill, like many great spots, can be hot or dead. It looked promising at first as Greg, living up to his name as “Schoolie Monster” got in to a 24 inch bass after just a few casts of the eel. I had a couple bumps early on and did manage on nice hookup on an aggressive 22-24# fish 8) . Much fun and difficulty keeping that fish out of the rocks ‘cause that’s all that is really in front of you is rocks and reef… Things really looked promising. Nice wind, surf building, hits and fish… Then not much of anything. I had one more bump about an hour later. Slipnot had a couple hits but it really got quiet and we didn’t see anything else happening… Several of us chatted for a while and most of us headed out to try other spots or just to get some shut eye…

I want to thank you guys as I had a blast and hope to fish with you again!!! There should be at least a few weeks left down the Ocean State to catch some bass before the big gals are gone and maybe there will be another chance or two….

Sorry I missed you Saltheart,I got a late start, maybe you might see me at the canal this week before you write off the ditch for the year and concentrate on Rhody. And you can always take the Onset exit and follow rt. 6 that way as there probally won't be anymore 6 mile backups on 25, maybe 2 miles.

It was nice to meet you guys and have the chance to fish with a few of the folks from this board. Even though the striped friends weren't cooperating for all of us. I could tell your all seriously dedicated to the sport of fishing.

I may have heard some mention of trying again next spring at the Block. I think that would be awesome . Plus we'd have more time to plan it. Something to think about this winter.

pages are not loading completely. Try reload and it sometimes helps , sometimes doesn't. I'm running Netscape here. For example , the reply page loads partially then hangs. I had to hit the stop button which sometimes leaves the page blank but sometimes posts up the rest of the page.
I'll try from home where I run IE and I'll post here on this thread to let you know if The problem is the same at home or not.
