What sort of conditions/situations can I expect from different wind directions on South County beaches?

Which do you prefer and find most advantageous?

give those N.E.wind,although these n.e. winds are pushing the grass and weeeds in. this is the time we should all be fishing !!!! just read the board and the fish will come!!!!!!!! if you all get out there!!!just think IRON MIKE and anything is possible........ get out and fish.

Krispy, I have never had a good day with a SE wind. SW has always been best for me. So many skunks on the SE I just don't bother anymore. Also tides run East(ebb)-West(flood) on the RI south shore and I have found certain spots are better when wind is blowing against the tide. Expect to find a ton of weeds with a SE wind.

Thanks, would fishing inside the Bay alleviate the weed issue, fishing on the east (Newport) side, or the west side of Beavertail?

West, NorthWest, Southwest, all good in my opinion. Light NE aint too shabby either, providing it just started.

I like any southerly wind on the south shore. In the bay i don't think it matters much. Tides and current are more important in the bay.

Anyone ever heard this, I don't think its true...

WIND FROM THE WEST FISHING IS BEST.

Van, heard it from an Old Boy down in Virginia.

When the wind is from the North don't go forth.
Wind from the south Blues to the mouth.

VAN - it's somewhat consistent and some places tend to shut down (or weed up) on an east wind but it's not iron clad. You get an East wind, you can still improve your shots at fish by moving around a bit more...

I always heard that growing up as well... for freshwater fishing.

wind from the south, fish open your mouth
wind from the west, fishing's the best
wind from the east, fishing's the least
wind from the north, do not go forth

For freshwater bass fishing, it makes sense cause s-sw-w winds usually mean stable conditions.

n-ne-e winds usually bring a nasty cold fronts.

I never figured the saltwater fish would be as affected, but I have seen them shut down on cold fronts quite a bit this year. The folklore that fishing can be the best right before/during the early stages of a front/storm is definitely on.

When I look back and remember my best days, a good percentage of them involve really snotty conditions.
