Well we are within 2 to 3 weeks of traditional season start. Typically i would target March 21 but some years evenm St Patricks day March 17 for atrip to the outside 9ocean , not up rivers etc) . I am always about a week behind the real icebreakers who start sometimes as early as March 10.

I won't get into specifics but i'm sure some will eventually but the rats will be on the outside east and west of the bay in the usual spots. i usually go west but actually like (enjoy ) the more eastern spots better.

So when do you traditionally wet the line for the first fish on the outside?

I used to Start on St.Pats day, that was always traditional for me..Not anymore..Now I wait till much later in April...It never really ends anymore anyway with all the fish in Prov...etc...But as for a Traditional first trip to the suds it was always St. Pats day..

I always like to go down to RI the third week of April or so and try to get into some good schoolie action. At home, I start around the first week in May

depending on temps, its usually the end of March, or first week of April..... some years the early season fishing is really great, but (like last 2 seasons) it never really got going for me.....

A customer of mine whom I have no reason not believe said he went down to an outflow in Narragansett to test some plugs and got a few schoolies - right after the rain a couple of days ago.

I checked the tides for a few of my spots, and It looks like I'll be starting at some point during the second week of March. (River Fishing). Last year , one particular spot had alwives during the second week of March. Going down there we didnt expect to find much untill we saw those classic alewife swirls followed by BOOM! We had a fun night, with lots of hefty schoolies with some more decent teen bass thrown in.

I cant Wait!!!!!!! :)

I start bait fishing with the squid, then Mack's, then I head for the fish mid to end of May.
We will see this year?? I have to get my new hard top installed and fish finder. So it depends on the weather ot get the work done.

I realize some decent single fish will be taken here and there prior to mid may up in the rivers and also points way south. For SE Mass and RI its ususally closer to Memorial Day before big numbers of large fish show.Last couple of years its been May 15 or so for the Canal and Gansett. Back to my rest.....:sleeps:

I will fish the 1st week of April. I got my 1st keeper last year on April 25th. Bucktail jig and pork on the bottom.

I did catch a few schoolies last weekend in the Prov River.
