Which works best may depend on the reel you use or how you fish. I know many people who swear by power pro. I wouldn't use power pro again if it was free. Sufix performance has been a winner for me.

Same here. Some people swear by Power Blows. Most swear at it.

When 50# test breaks in your hands like sewing thread when you try to pull some line off against a tight drag, it kind of kills any confidence you might have had left in the crap. That was the last time I had an infamous "mystery break %$%$%$%$. It wasn't the first.

The killer is, if you get a good spool of it, it's great line. But their QC is horrible, and bad spools slip through the cracks and cost you tackle.

Personally spent all season last year playing with PP 50# and found there were quite a few break off.I had respooled a couple of times on the season from different stores and shops only to come to the same result.Break off resulting in lost lures.Not your stuck on a rock pulling hard trying to break off more like casting and while in mid air flying out line breaks.I fish alot of topwater and examine my gear more than average.I am trying the 50# sufix this year hell or high water.Last plug lost was a Yozuri surface cruiser on one of it's first few casts.Made me rethink my choice in line quite a bit.That plug flew out of site on a rainy crappy day .I walked the beach for hours after trying to find it.Ask me in December I'll let ya know.The sufix feels better and acts better but haven't done much with it yet.

I have spools of both in the 30# class and only PP in 50#. I've been a PP user for a few years and just started on the Sufix last year. Maybe I've been lucky but I've never ended up with one of those 'bad spools' of PP yet. The Sufix has a higher thread count so theoretically it may perform better. However in my experience I can't really find any difference so I'll keep on buying the PP as it's a little cheaper.

I used to use 20#pp on my light stuff to many breakoffs I switched to 30# pp and have had few problems.I was going to put 50# pp on my 10 foot rod for my heavy tackle but when I here these comments I dont no if it is worth loosing a 20$ plug.I tried different tipes of mono and hate it.

I'm thinking now of trying suffix how is the casting and price on it compared to pp?

I havent had any bad PP either, it always works well. Last year played with the big game braid and it worked well. Got a few mystery breaks one night at the canal, probably took a bit of abuse and i didnt notice it.

second season using sufix braid. It lays out well on my conv gear. Just rec'd 1200 yds of 50#, should last me the season. $130.00 is well worth it

I've been using PP for years now and love it. I haven't tried Suffix..Maybe I'll have to give it a shot..but I hate change..:conf::heybaby:

I have been using PP since it came out pretty much and I have to agree in the early days it was hit or miss. Some spools were great and others sucked. MikeP is right there were some spools back then that you could break 50# test with just a hand pull. Others were fine. However IMO this is no longer a problem. I have not had a "bad spool" in a few years. Last year I fished it on nearly every spool (spin and conv) except on my tuna stuff.

With all the good feedback about suffix I am going to put it on a few reels this spring. Tell me, how does the diameters compare for the same # test? and how is the castability of the two?

Used PowerPro for years myself...made the change to Sufix 2 years ago and never looked back... what is a wind knot? lasts longer too... Powerpro i was respooling almost every 3 weeks where Sufix has gone 1 season..

knot strength... well i had 1 fail and 99.9% sure it was my fault with Sufix... lost 1 MAC pencil on a hook set...

Lost 10 plugs in 1 week with powerpro...

wind knots accounted for 6 hooligan tins lost to the surf...
Backlash on a spinning reel.. How many needles on the bottom... :(

FYI if you try Tuff line you will see it's almost identical to PowerPro. just a little less expensive...

One thing i miss is the silly distance one can get with PowerPro... Mind boggling bomb shots into the Atlantic with a 3-1/2oz pencil and the ooh's and ahh's....

maybe 20yd loss going to Sufix... but not once have i had an issue with wind knot or line loose on the spool... that to me is an excellent trade off...

last year, i lasted about i month with PP 30#.
To be blunt, it SUCKED. wind knots, break offs, and
no difference in distance, once i switched to Fireline. actually fireline went further, for me.

Love the 30# Fireline and it served me well for the entire season.
Only had to strip two or three times, and no more than 75 yds each time due to normal wear and tear. the one spool lasted me the entire season, and i still have about 100 yds on my spool as the backing for Suffix 30# that i have just tried and like very much for its castability and a "perceived" increased suppleness..................so far, on my 704Z.

have yet to see how it performs under the pressure of a fish, but i hope to get into some reds or snook within the next couple of days down here in the Sunshine State.

the NPT Contingent swears by 55# Suffix when seeking Trophy Bass and after this 30# Suffix trial period i'll prolly go to the heavy stuff to see how it performs at my honey hole when COW time comes :humpty: :humpty:.

Pete G did a break test that was very revealing and should prove helpful, 44mike44. for me, the debate is between fireline and suffix, with pp a verrrry distant third and perhaps fourth ~now that daiwa has jumped into the braid game, ahhhhh but that is the stuff of another thread :wave: :wave:

Here is a pic I just snapped. The red is 30# PP, green is 30# Sufix, and clear is some mono (forget # test). It's not the world's best pic and I don't have a tripod to take a super close up shot - but the lines seem pretty comparable in diameter. They are both listed as the equivalent of 8 # mono (.011). Rolled between my fingers the Sufix does feel smoother and slightly more round.

i was in the middle of deciding which of those 2 to use

so whats the preferred test for all of you on your standard surf gear? got with 30# braid or 50#? do you really lose noticeable casting distance?

i say either 50# or 65# from the surf... i would never use anything less then 50# for fear i would take my finger off.... i wear tape but still.

well with conventional, it depends on the application. if your doing like some fluking or light tackle on like a 7' rod or something, i say use whatever --> 30# or so and up. if your doing chunking from the surf, i think the 65# is your best bet in my opinion.
