I have been in there a few times and I know a lot of our members go there and speak highly of the shop. Just the other day, Steve McKenna was speaking highly of Pat Abate from River's End.

So, lets give a Warm Welcome to Pat & River's End Tackle. :btu:

River's End will also be holding its annual Striper Surf Day this weekend - here are the details:

March 8, 10am to 4pm Striper Surf Day

This is another kick start to the season on the waters edge. We'll have a few knock out speakers, some factory reps for you to talk to, a couple of authors and hundreds of surf rats to lie to.

Zeno Hromin will talk about choosing the right lures for the right conditions. He'll talk from about 11 to noon.
"Crazy Alberto" Knie, so named for his fishing style, will talk about advanced surfcasting for trophy bass. He'll be on from 1pm to whenever.
Adam Romagna will be here to show his antique striped bass lures and talk to you about your old lures.
Craig Cantelmo from VanStaal will show you the inner workings of a VS and you can also leave your VS reels with him for factory service.
Herb Reed from Lunker City will be demonstrating his new 12" Slug-gos.
Steve McKenna will be showing you how to rig Slug-gos.
John Skinner will be signing his new book on surfcasting "A Season on the Edge".
Tink Nelson from Pradco will be showing the latest Bombers and Red Fins and show how to load the Red Fin.
J.N-Ski will be here demonstrate his plugs.
Jordan Paulo from Shimano will be showing some new reels for saltwater including a manual pick up Spheros.
Kadir from Aquaskinz will have some new foul weather gear and tackle storage bags.
Joe Martins from Pt. Jude Lures will give you some hints on metal.
We'll have a demonstration on how to rig eels. But wait there's more !

We're rolling out the grill and serving some manly offerings. Theres some great sales and deals. Most of all its a great day with friends.

Hope to see you there.

Pat Abate

If you've never been there, it takes about 5 seconds and a 180 degree eye sweep to realize "Hey, there's some great s^*T here !". And that's for starters. The staff is great and the place has a buzz.

Hi Pat,
I've attended the show for a couple of years and it's always been great and well worth the trip. I'm going to try and make the show this year, but according to the forecast I may have to attempt it in a boat.

Welcome to S-B .com.

About 8 years ago i was scouring the tackle shops looking for different styles of skin jigs. Pat let me take one (an unusual one) off his display wall and bring it home and make a mold from it. I then returned the original to him. I still have that mold.
Nice guy.

Rivers End is where i first started buying saltwater stuff a while back, in there old location. Dont travel that way often since family moved away but make it down there on a trip to lenny and joes every year. Always pick up some goodies, last stop was rather expensive.

I've only dealt with Pat on one occasion. I got a tip from another member here (who doesn't post very much since he bought a boat ;) ) that Pat may have had one or two leftover JK Fisher blanks in the shop. This was years after Fisher stopped making them, when the blanks were impossible to find, and guys who could find them were paying upwards of $250 for them. I called to find out. Sure enough, Pat had one last 8720 ten footer left. Drove up there from Long Island. I was prepared to pay any reasonable price for it. Pat was trying to figure out what to charge me, and finally found a dog-eared, tattered Fisher price list that had to be 10 years old if it was a day old. He charged me exactly what that ancient price list read--$132.50.

Great guy.

probably my favorite shop owner in the fishing world.Man has class and mad surfcasting skills.
His shop is so spotless ,you can eat of the floor. He told me "Hey ,if I am going to spend so much time here ,might as well keep it clean".
I wish some LI tackle store owners would listed to the man

IMO its the best surf caster shop in the State.

I don't know about that ;)
He might be ,in my opinion ,one of the best on east coast ,not just in CT

Yeah Pat is great. Frank Daignault showed some aerial photos of BI and Quonny at a seminar and I asked hey where did you get them... Pat Abate... so I drove down and he let me look through all his photo albums and borrow the ones I wanted to make copies of... that is special.

Just got back from Striper Surf Day.
Top shelf as usual.

Picked up some BMs, JN Skis and some sweet stubby wadd needles made by a local builder. 12" sluggos, rigged and unrigged in at least (4) colors.

Did I mention BMs?

More rods than you could shake a "stick" at.

The grill was smokin' with dogs, sausages, venison and there was even venison stew. I liked the steaming sauerkraut topping. All free.

John Skinner was demonstrating rigging eels.

Steve McKenna was demonstrating rigging sluggos (9 & 12s). Steve seemed to think the 12s were of a harder rubber as they were more difficult to rig.

Zeno and Crazy Al both gave super seminars.

Boy, that Pat knows how to throw a party!!
Well worth the trip, despite the rain.

What an unbelievable turnout even with the bad weather! An excellent ,well stocked and well staffed shop ,with seminars and free food, filled with fishermen from all over.Good show!:kewl:Kudos to all who made the trip especailly the brave New York gang .It was nice meeting some more of you and seeing those I already know.Kadir gets the Iron Man award as he is driving directly all the way down to Asbury Park for tomorrow's show there, and the weather was HORRENDOUS on the way home! With the windsheild wipers on full speed it looked like bubble wrap on my windshield. I heard some were going to catch the ferry back to LI ...that ride must have had it's ups and downs!:yak6:

I heard some were going to catch the ferry back to LI ...that ride must have had it's ups and downs!:yak6:

Van Staalmo called me from inside the VS van on the ferry on the ride home to say goodbye in case the ship went down. He was wishing he had packed his Mustang survival suit.

I could hear the water rushing past on the floor in the background.
