Has anybody had any experience removing the rear treble hook on a swimmer( ie. bomber, rapala etc..) and replacing it with a single buck tail hook? Will this ruin the performance or decrease hookups so much that is not worthwhile? Thanks, Bob

I have switched out all of my rear hooks on Bombers, X-Raps, poppers, etc. with undressed siwash hooks. Does not result in less hookups as far as I can tell and it makes releasing fish much easier, also I find I injure far fewer smallish fish without the rear treble to get caught up in their gills. I have not tried a single bucktail hook yet on any of these, although I plan to rig an A-Salt up that way and try it out. Most of my surf plugs have single rear bucktailed hooks and they work great. I have a feeling that on lighter plugs the bucktail siwash might ruin the action, but we'll see. Two plugs that I did not like the single rear hook on were spooks and mag darters, took too much away from the action.

Interesting. The Mag Darter is the one smaller plastic that I have found is greatly improved by adding a dressed siwash rear hook. IMHO.

Thanks for the replies plankton and emgred. I will have to do some re rigging before the season starts. Probably right after MikeCC's sale. :fishin:

I just tried it with an undressed siwash and didn't like it, but I'll have to try using a dressed hook and see how it works.

I think the water resistance from the bucktail is what makes the difference. For me the two plugs with the most marked improvement from adding a dressed siwash are the Mag Darter and the SS sinking Littleneck.

SS sinking Littleneck.
Swimmer or popper? I switched my popper's rear hook to a dressed siwash and I love it, made a great plug even better, have not tried it with the littleneck swimmer though.
