Cool story......Massachusetts Boy Scout won the 1st Field and Stream Boy Scout Heroes of Conservation Award.

Heroes of Conservation Boy Scout of the Year Award Winner:

Michael Browne
Milton, Mass.
Troop 5

A year ago, angler and high school sophomore Michael Browne realized that his favorite hobby might be harmful to waterfowl. "I got to thinking about what happened to the lead weights we lose", he says. He found studies that said birds sometimes swallow the lead and can be poisoned by it. So Browne worked with his troop and the Toxic Use Reduction Institute at the University of Massachusetts, to launch the Get the Lead Out of Fishing campaign, a program that exchanges people's lead weights for environmentally friendly ones. To get more support, Browne presented his project to the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

thats a great story.

Sometimes it takes a kid to get grown up problems solved. No logistics, red tape or other nonesense, just why? how? and lets go. simple! Plus i bet reps listen to kids on this type of stuff. its good PR. ;)

good for him!

Great story. And to think that no one is getting rich off of this and it's still getting done. Also, it's nice to see that there are kids with priorities other than which video game they need next.

they did that with bird shot so why not with fishing lead weights...

and it takes a kid to bring them up to speed... imagine that...
