as a person who wears glasses.. i have to say i absolutely hate windy rainy days/nights. i mean.. i'm out there, and loving it.except it i cant see anything. i just kinda of fumble around blindly cause its not even worth wiping them off after the first 2342423 times. my buddy has the same problem. misty nights are just as bad.

this came up cause i was looking at pics of nasty weather fishing... and had a flashback to a few miserable nights. and really i all i remember is not being able to see a damned thing.

i'm always wearing a hat, but if it's nasty enough that doesnt help.

any other guys on hear have or have had this problem? any good solutions?
i'm thinking about finding a pair of those glasses with the little windshield wipers on them. :smash:

Not sure but try the rainex/anti fog wipes at wally world,,,,, just keep them away from your eyes until they dry,,,

I have the same trouble.The only cure is contacts.I just never did it though,so I still suffer on the "best" nights.

Lasik.....................Rainex type stuff helped minimally.

seriosly, contacts. I went last year and it has totally changed my fsihing experience. I used to just take my glasses off at night in the surf they would get so fogged up. I only wear the contacts when I fish or swim or on weekends. they are a pita, but you get used to them. its worth it

If there is a large wave (or one of the little buggers pops out, which is not unheard of....), I've got at least partial vision to get back/drive home.

I just don't feel comfortable being perched on the rocks at night knowing that one knock/wave/head movement could render me at a significant disadvantage vision-wise when the glasses go off into the dark.

Mind you, contacts have their disadvantages too. I had one night when I was catching blues one after the other, all 6-7 lb. I had one held with the lip gripper in one hand, pliers in the other hand ready to unhook it when the little sod (deliberately?) managed to scoop up a tailful of sand right into my face.

Sand in both eyes. Under the contacts. No hands free, and the blue now trying everything it could to shake it's way back to the sea.

Agony.

The fishing gods took pity on me and I managed to blink the sand out from under the contacts (something of miracle there). I proceeded to unhook the blue and return it to the sea, but not without going through a good part of my more colourful vocabulary........:D

when you use rainx your still a couple of feet away
from your windshield with your eyes and glasses
allowing you to look between the rain drops

but when you have raindrops right on the outside
of your glasses then your looking thru the raindrop
making vision or seeing impossible...

i was wondering if wearing some clear ski goggles
or even a diving mask might achieve the same
thing...allowing you to see around the drops...

applying rainx to the outside of either the ski goggles
or face mask would allow the rain drops to run off
instead of just sitting there same as on a windshield.

just a thought ....instead of lazik surgery or contacts

i was watching a show on sharpening tools ect...on the history
channel & they were saying that the lazik lazer beam made
cuts 200 times smaller than a human hair... :read:

You can leave your glasses home and hire me as your seeing eye fisherman all you do is show me where your spot is wait in the car and i go and fish it for you.

Contacts work well, the issue with contacts or possibly lasik you may need reading glasses as you age.

disposable contacts. Got 'em 2 years ago. I wish I had years ago. I only wear them fishing. They are the most important piece of fishing equipment I own. I used to had foggy/misty nights. Now I love'em.

Before you go an spend hundreds on contacts go spend $5 and get a thing of Cat Crap. It works.

i've only got one pair of glasses.. would rather avoid smearing cat crap all over them. something about constantly having remnants of cat crap an inch from my eyes doesn't sit right.

that will help the fog, but not the water. I used to put squares of paper towels under my hat to wipe my glasses after I took a wave in the face or it was raining, they were the only thing i had that was dry in the surf.
If you go with the disposables, and only use for fishing, you wont spend too much $. And .... you get to wear "normal" sunglasses again,

i've already got that covered... transition lens..
so far worth every penny. and it was alot of pennies. i have put them through over a year of abuse and not a scratch which surprises me with the amount of salt i've wiped off of them. i've had cheaper pairs that after a day were unwearable. but yeah i will try cat crap and/or rainx first (cheaper and easier) if no success.. give contacts a try. hopefully i can deal with putting them in.

heres the skinny on contact lenses

there are daily disposable lenses, ask your optometrist for a couple of weeks of trials for these, since your tear film needs to become acclimated to the thinner material

no cleaning of these lenses at all

put a pair in in the morning
take them out at night and throw them away
put a new pair in the next day

benifit of these lenses besides being the most healthiest way to wear contact lenses is when you are exposed to water

these are the modality of contact lens wearing that the american opthamology association recommends to patients that are exposed to water, ie, swimmers, surfers, fisherman

a nasty microbial disease can take place when you are exposed to water while wearing contact lenses and not cleaning them

Its called acanthameba castrilio

basically its bacteria build-up between your contact lens and the first layer of your eye

can cause blindness in the worst cases

these lenses are a bit more than traditional 2 week lenses, but your paying for health and convenience

after the trial, if you decide to purchase there is usually a pretty nice rebate that comes with the lenses...in the value of $60.00-$80.00 depending on the company

I'll try and get decksweeper to chime in on this one as he made the switch to daily disposables approx 3 years ago and loves them...he'll let you know from first hand experience

earlier yes, but only because of an a-hole boss and long days at work, if fuel priceskeep going up I might be on the beach with you all summer though, lot's of boaters getting nervous, worried about having a job
