I live in the UK and fish for Pike (Northerns) mainly. I had a holiday in and around Cape Cod a couple of years ago and managed to catch a couple of small stripers fishing cotton cordell pencil poppers and Kastmaster. I think I fished the pencil popper too slowly really, having seen a video on You Tube of a guy showing you how to fish one though.

Anyway, I'm coming back for another holiday in September and would like to try to get a couple more stripers and maybe a blue or two, so.... Is there any general guideline as to when it's better to fish swimmer plugs, poppers, kastmasters, wildeyes etc? Is it a seasonal thing, personal preference, boat vs shore? etc. I just want to get a rough idea of what I need to have with me to have a moderate chance of success.

Many thanks

welcome Tim :wavey:...a good resource here would be the search feature...all the info you will need is in past threads...kick back, spend some time and do a bit of research. Also, make some friends here between now and when you visit and maybe someone will give you a tip as to where the fishing is hot then.

TK - September is usually a good time to be on the Cape too. Depending on when you want to fish - night/day will have some bearing on what and how you'll fish. Lots of info in the search and I wouldn't be surprised that if you hung around here as a member for a while, you might get an invite or two when the time gets near...

Welcome to S-B

Where on the Cape will you be staying?

Thanks guys, I've been scanning the search function a fair bit and cross referencing with googles on the various lures mentioned. It's confusing if you're new to the scene! :-)

I'm not sure where I'll be staying yet, we'll probably move around a bit. Any suggestions as to where would be a better part of the cape to stay on for a few days at the beginning of Sept would be appreciated.

Very beginning of September can be a bit of a zoo, wait until the middle at least ;)
