Red Top in Buzzards Bay has them. Cast a mile, pain in the ass re rigging if you break off, They come with a special wire loop threding wire and woe to you if you lose it while fishing especially with braid.

Or when some sand or mung clogs the tip ;)

IF these were the Daiwa inline then I cna say that reports from the beaches of NC are thaat the new 07/08 versions are much much better with regard to sand and other debris. There is something about the new tip that sheds water and debris off the line as it enters the blank. There is a cult following in the surf crowd down there.

Guideless rods have been around a long time. Maybe 5 years or more since the first were mentioned online. As has already been mentioned , the drawback is in stringing them up and gunking them up.

If you want to go very different , I think trying a spiral wrapped surfrod would be a safer bet than the no guide rods.

If you loose that wire you can tie your braid around a piece of fabric, a piece of paper.. whatever is light and will fit through the rod and blow down the opening to push the line through. I watched someone do it once.. it took a few minutes but he was able to keep on fishing.

Just remember if you break the tip the rod it can not be repaired.:af::af:

now it kinda sounds like a little more hassle than what its worth.
