This from Wed in that nasty wind and rain. Just hammered the crappie(calico bass) on a bobber and fly. All the fish were between 1lb & 1lb 13oz. It was a blast....I can't wait for the stripers to come back strong all these little fish are driving me nuts. Enjoy

Nice fish, your video has me pumped. We usually fish later in April for crappie and have some great fish fries.

imho, crappie and walleye are the best eating fresh water fish there is, my favorite is spicy crappie: soak the fillets for an hour in Louisiana hot sauce then bread and deep fry, --heaven --

I was out today and used your bobber and fly method. I had a great time out there in the rain.

I used a brown fly. At first I was only catching sunfish and I kept moving and found a school of crappies. Sometimes on instinct I would set the hook but only once in a while. Every cast I would get a bite, and either land the fish or tear the papermouth.
I didnt get anything huge like you but they were the biggest crappies I have caught at this pond. To end the day I had a nice bite and landed a decent pickerel with the fly through his mouth and out under the gillplate.

Have you ever gotten a bass with this method?

Crappie indeed. I used to catch lots of them out of the charles river esplanade canals. Could not eat them though. They are definitely one the best tasting freshwater fish available.

Good to talk to you today. Thanks for the heads-up. Hit that spot and slammed them. Slabs up to just under 15" and bluegills up to 12 1/4". Don't know weights. How accurate is that scale on smaller fish? I'd like my son to get some pins. I would have kept the biggies today but no way to keep alive to release. Time to put the Keepalive back in the truck. I took some pics, but with phone. I'm gonna try tomorrow pm. Will take camera and try to post pics if we get anything decent. Again, thanks for the heads-up, had a blast. Danny says thanks too.

gotta take advantage before the bugs are out real heavy...some skeeters are already hatching... the horse flies here are real nasty so i can't put it off til summer. I caught a calico that size trolling one day at Lake Chuancy in Westboro ...and let him go.
