Sunday was the awards banquet for the month long derby. What a wonderful ceremony especially when Fisherwoman got on stage to accept her numerous prizes, including a nice rod & reel for the Albie she caught.
This year, there was a new memorial award, the Robert "Huff" Langley award. This award is selected at random from the First Places in the All Tackle division of each species caught from shore. I had the pleasure of being on stage to pick the name of Bob Marie, who is an Islander, and a very dear friend of ours. After the cermony, he wanted to know all about Huff, after crying and hugging me, he saw that I had Huff's picture (which was displayed at the weigh station for the month long derby). He wanted to take it home with him and make a copy of it and hang it in his fishing room.
Roland and I would like to extend our thanks to MikeP, Brad, fisherwoman and baitcaster for the WONDERFUL items that were donated for Huffs award. A beautiful Penn rod, numerous Plugs, numerous lures and a Shimano Baitrunner reel. Thanks again so much everyone.
After the awards ceremony, Richie, Millsey, and Charlie, Huffs wife came back to our house where we shared many, many of huffs stories. We laughed so hard, the stories were great!!!!!

Squidgoddess!!! Nice to see you down MV and I'm glad you and the Big Guy had a blast... You get into any more Striper action while you were down there? I remember you saying you wanted to...

I'm a happy that the 1st Memorial Robert "Huff" Langley award went smoothly and honorably. It is a great way to honor and respect a person and the memories of that person shared with many. You and those that helped you did a wonderfull job and I'm sure that Huff would appreciate that...

Hi Sherry--I looked for you in some of the old usual haunts while I was there--Menemsha, Memorial Wharf--but didn't see you and Roland. TimS and Dubs from StripersOnline made the trip with me, and they turn into vampires once the sun pokes over the horizon. I only went out once all week during the day and never even made a cast in the light. The board was down before I had a chance to touch base before we left. I wanted to get your phone# over there. I left the rod and plugs with Richie at the campground before we headed off-Island on Saturday evening.

We had some good bass action after dark--we fished Down-Island exclusively. Nothing huge, I weighed one that was 19.35 that didn't make the board for that day--a day before or after, it would have been second or fourth. Dubs had one that was 1/8th" short of 34" that would have finished second that day, but he did win a 2d daily bluefish with one about 10-1/2#. I took one fish the whole wek on eels, and over 50 on plugs. The bite died out on Friday evening, with the full moon and calm winds. Tim was the only one with good results that night, and he had to resort to the fly rod to get solid bites.

I'll e-mail you my address from home. Our office e-mail server is a disatser and down once again.

Hi Mike, So nice to hear from you. We're both so sorry we never hooked up with you but did get the
awesome items at Richies. Thanks so much again Mike.
We did pretty good this year. I weighed in 3 fish and I know someone who didn't Ahem!! LOL. One of the fish took a second (blue) and I won the woman's weekly for that fish. Fished mostly down island. Wharf, big and lttle bridges gut, Wasque, etc. Did go to Quansoo and Gay head a few times and caught some nice bass and blues. When we first got here, Sept 3rd, we caught more bones and albies, way over the minimum for the derby. Then as the derby started, it died out and the albies were small. How are you feeling?
Mike, do you know Bob Marie (hunchback) who won Huffs award?
He called me yesterday and told me he's on a mission. He's using the rod and reel and tackle, that we all donated, and he's fishing for a 50lber. If he catches one, he's going to have it mounted by Janet Messimio, and give the fish to Charlie. If anyone can do it, he can. I thought that was such a wonderful gesture. Wouldn't that be super if he accomplishes it?
You have my e-mail address. Would love to hear from you over the months. Take care
