Now that most of us are either done or almost done saltwater fishing for the season, how did 2000 shape up compared to last year? For me up in Maine it was slower than last year (which was much slower than the year before) but the fish that I did manage to catch were definitely bigger. If the fish I did catch weren't so big, I would attribute the bad year to supply. Instead, I believe that the weather kept the bait offshore, and so the fish never had much of an incentive to come in to the surf. I would like to hear how others did and to what they attribute their success or lack thereof.

Way,way to early to say yet! The season is far from over!! We still have another month to go! The best is still yet to come.

So far,Its been a fantastic season

Marty!! 2000 aint over yet!!! Still a month or so left to go for me. So far, no complaints (well there really won't be). I've caught several fish in the thirty pound range upto 35#s and numerous in the 20# range and lovin' it!!! I also had many chances to meet many of you and many others that share this obessi..uh lifestyle - I mean passion, yeh thats it...

I was not able to go out and catch the right places and tides nearly as often as I wanted but I did manage to fit in some quality fishing this year.

Again, fine season, but still want a 50 though :-D

It is winding down for me, but I might still sneek in a couple trips. I'd say this year was outstanding, both for numbers and size. Last year was a good year for numbers, but the fish were running considerably smaller last year compared to this year.

Be nice to see that trend continue, maybe next year we can count on bigger fish yet. One thing I am definately going to do next year is get some sort of working knowledge of the RI area, so I can start earlier and finish later. I'd be working on that now, except I've put off so many of the things on my "honey do list", I can't buy the time now.

Also too early for me as well, still have another month or so to go here in CT & RI and hope it will get better as we have just started to see some "blitz" conditions here in CT.
But so far I have put in more hours and caught more fish than ever from the surf including my biggest ever caught from the surf (low 30lb range). So I would rate it as good so far, but it could become great depending on what happens in the next month.
As far as compared to last year, I thought the heat killed the fishing last year so I think this year has been better.

My saltwater season is winding down too. I'm heading to Ontario saturday morning and won't return until next saturday... unless the fishing is really good in which case I'll be back sunday.

In any event, I'll probably only have a couple more shots at stripers as the run winds down.

This was a pretty good year. Though I've been fishing my whole life, this was only my third year of serious saltwater fishing and I learned a heck of alot. I was able to put in alot of time and had a blast.

I'm already thinkin' about next season as I'll have the added versatility of a 16' fishing boat... I won't be chasin' bluefin or anything, but I'll be able to chase fish in the harbor. I've also been really good this year, so Santa will likely be getting me a whole bunch of new gear over the winter:)

But I get ahead of myself... I have a whole week of bass fishing (freshwater) right in front of me, and I gots ta check out that winter fishery down on the Thames Rivah, CT...

So, my season may never end!
