Longer rods come in handy along the south facing beaches, when you have an onshore wind and a decent surf rolling in. And since your prevailing wind is SW, you often have the wind in your face there. They can also help in places like Squibnocket and other boulder fields, as the extra length can raise your line over rocks. The 9 footer is good for the north shore, State Beach and the bridge jetties, the VH jetty, most of Chappy, the Gut, places like that.

South beach-Squibnocket-Gay Head is 11 footer territory.

I live on the vineyard year round and fish the south shore every day in the summer and a 10 footer is the way to go for squibby to wasque... a 9 foot or less should be fine everywhere else.

Lamiglas GSB 120-1M is available custom or factory and is one of the most versatile 10 foot surf rods out there. Obviously nothing can do everything which is why we need more rods :tooth:

Half of your better B&Ts and Half of your better custom rod builders can get you a custom or off the shelf 120-1M. I know several of our sponsors (http://www.striped-bass.com/fishing/s-b-sponsors.html) carry them and a lot of people not sponsored do...

(River's End, M&D's/CapeCodTackle, Saltwater Edge to name a few)

smac-
I think you would find the 10' Lami XS101MS more than suitable to make you happy. I believe it is the little brother of the 120 1M, it is built out of the GSB 120 1L. I have taken a good deal of decent fish with this rod w/out a complaint.
