Is there a herring run on Nantucket anywhere that anyone knows of?

or a place I might find holdovers at all?
it's probably a bit early for the ocean facing beaches I suppose.

I'll be there for 3 days so I might as well bring a rod with me for schoolies.

thanks

nevermind
i just did some research
there is some spot burning on a forum I found so I will definately bring a rod and work fast so I might have time to wet a line out there.

Good luck Bruce. Dress warm, early spring is colder down there because of the water temps.

the pond is kinda weedy for sabiki rigs..We used to use little 1/32 jigs with a gold hook.U put 2 on one with a dropper to cast em with a lite trout rod. It's probably too early for em.Run em to eel point to catch a cormarant.

Usually the beginning of May heralds the Herring return but this year is warming up quickly. South shore water is 46+ right now. Sunny days are key.

Plenty of holdovers in the ponds. Try Long Pond. It is yielding keeper size. Has been all winter Also Sesachacha which has herring as well

Hi Beachwalker, glad to see you still come around here, I thought about you but hadn't seen you on the site in a long time. Hope all is well. Thanks for the info, I'm back now. I wanted to try to get to long pond but only had an hour before the ferry off. I did have time to try Miacomet, or something like ,at lunchtime, but it wasn't opened up to the ocean and had no luck there. Real nice island out there. I don't know how anyone that works for a living can afford to live out there. I was way over in Sconset. If I ever get back out there Beachwalker, I'll look you up.
