Was suppose to be out there on Johns Boats out of Plymouth today to use a birthday pass from my son. I overslept and am sitting here sulking. Just wondering if anyone has been out in the last week on one of there head boats and how there experience was this year.

I fished Sunday and Monday in a well known spot where the fishing has been decent. No John boats in sight.

Capt. John has a tough time catching. Good head boats are Helen-H and the American Classic. Huck and Walsh fill freezers with filets.

I was on the 4-20-08 Sunday trip, full boat.
1-23" cod between 40 to 50 fishermen is hard to swallow.
I was on it twice in the mid 80's, it was bad even then.
I'm glad my new skiff will be ready in two weeks, then I can blame myself and not the full moon.
Save your money for bait, at least until the poagies arrive.:yak6:

Baddjack,
Doh!!! :scream: I wish I had received your reply earlier. I went out on the 4/23 Wednesday trip this past week and it was a HUGE mistake.
It being Vacation week, it was overloaded with all seats and standing room taken. If you didn't bring Norwegian Jigs or similar, you were just there for the boatride. Those that knew how caught / snagged fish. Evidently it's spawning season through early May and the Cod are not feeding so snagging seems to be the MO for those seasoned regulars on the boat. I give the staff a whole lot of credit for their patience and ability to untangle the nightmares that occur when the capt. wants to drift fish with 80 people fishing.
It was a birthday gift so I had to use it as somepoint. Weather was delightful, I learned a few things, and the boatride was nice (saw 1 whale). Oh Yeah...my 2 sculpin were added to my catch and release total. HAH!
