View Full Version : This looks funn, a little nuts but funn djfishes 04-24-2008, 02:05 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCz20M8gnIc The Dad Fisherman 04-24-2008, 02:48 PM Gear goes in the water, you go in the water. Shark's in the water. Big shark. Farewell and adieu to you, fair Spanish ladies. Farewell and adieu, you ladies of Spain. For we've received orders for to sail back to Boston. And so nevermore shall we see you again. Like I want to dress up like a seal and go swimming with them....no thank you InTheHole 04-24-2008, 03:31 PM Not to mention the fact that you have a struggling, bleeding fish attached to you as an attractant. I think we will be reading about one of these guys in the paper when they find what's left of him. Rockport24 04-24-2008, 03:56 PM yeah skishing is definitely extreme. especially at night in decent surf. you wouldn't catch me out there without at kayak! 5/0 04-25-2008, 08:04 PM The question is......Is this a "boat fish" or is it a "shore fish" or is it time we simply recognize that this as a new class of fishing? 5/0 Slipknot 04-25-2008, 08:36 PM They got the name wrong it should be swishing I don't see any skiis  I thought they swam and fished, thus swishing. :hidin: Myself,I'll stay on shore thanks, I got a skiff if I want to get in the water. nightfighter 04-25-2008, 08:47 PM Yeah, I've got a very different picture in mind for my "swimming in the womb....." smac 04-25-2008, 09:06 PM The last 40" inch fish I caught sure as heck didnt weigh 40lbs. Maybe he meant 40" when he first came out of the water. and people think that Kayak fishing at night is crazy. :hee: hyefisherman2 04-26-2008, 09:47 AM The question is......Is this a "boat fish" or is it a "shore fish" or is it time we simply recognize that this as a new class of fishing? 5/0 it already is recognized as a different type of fishing...skishing! BassDawg 04-27-2008, 06:54 AM They got the name wrong it should be swishing I don't see any skiis  I thought they swam and fished, thus swishing. :hidin: Myself,I'll stay on shore thanks, I got a skiff if I want to get in the water. Hey Slipknot, i think they refer to it as "skishing" because when ya hook into a monster, she pulls ya like a boat would and the fins become the skis..................... Waaaaaay to CRAZY for me, especially in Great White Country!!! i am thinking of wetsuiting it around NPT in a year or two, when and if i can budget the gear. 5/0 04-27-2008, 04:40 PM it already is recognized as a different type of fishing...skishing! I should of been more specific, what I meant was what about fishing tournaments what kind of class do they fall into, boat or shore fish,or soon to be skishing?I don't belive I've seen this check box in the class selection yet when signing up for a tourny. Skishing has been around for only a short while it's growing rapidly many fishermen seek this for a number of reasons, but it's still in it's infancy stages,I personally don't think it been entirely recognized as a whole new fishing strategy. BasicPatrick 04-27-2008, 09:34 PM Skishing is fun, a bit scary in the beginning but loads of fun. Paul is a friend and is my teacher in this style of fishing. My first time he tested me in rough surf in less than a foot of water making sure I wanted to learn. There is techniques that help. I have skished Point Allerton, Nobska, Jerusalem Road and few other spots mentioned on this board. Skishing is safer than Rock Hopping and Kayak fishing. The Mv Derby committee voted Skishing fish shore fish a couple years ago. In some tournaments Skishing and wetuiting are put in their own division. teaser 04-28-2008, 07:23 AM Did I miss something or did these fish he caught look like they were already dead when he reeled them in? I don't remember any stripers ever being that limp being reeled in. The Dad Fisherman 04-28-2008, 07:55 AM I wouldn't classify it as a shore fish. A shore fish, at least for our tourneys, is one that is Hooked and Landed while standing on the shore. I would almost lean to classify it as a boat fish....almost. Think about it, a Boat, Kayak, Float tube would all be considered boat fish. Why, because they provide you flotation out on the water. Skishing uses a wetsuit to accomplish the same thing. just a different way of looking at it If anything this should generate some dialogue on the subject bloocrab 04-28-2008, 08:35 AM I wouldn't classify it as a shore fish. A shore fish, at least for our tourneys, is one that is Hooked and Landed while standing on the shore.,,,,, So technically speaking, fishing in waders waist high IN the water shouldn't fall into a "shore fish" category either because you're not really standing on the shore, but in the water itself. Perhaps that should be re/considered as another different type of fishing in itself ??/??. Perhaps semi-skishing? And maybe when you have to wade thru the water to a pile of rocks that you couldn't get to without getting wet should be considered......sub-shore fishing???.... Oh the technicalities of the terminologies of fishing. ....and to think, fishing USED TO BE so simple. :buds: What class does spear-fishing fall into....? Aqua-fishing? which is neither shore fishing/boat fishing/skishing/oh boy....what a tangled web we weave - BasicPatrick 04-28-2008, 08:38 AM I agree skishing can be looked at as either a boat fish, a shore fish or a class unto itself...that's up to the tournament committees to figure out...there are good arguements either way. Truth is there are so very few people doing it that the arguement is a lot more theoretical than actual and for that reason I for one don;t participate in thos debates. I will say that anyone that gets interested in this extreme version of fishing should take a long time researching, talking to and then trying with only those that are very experienced. Without proper techniques, equipment etc, a prety safe method can get very dangerous very quickly. The good thing is no waders to tear and fill whn blasted off a rock...it is much harder to fall and get banged up on the rocks, you can get to rocks and bars others can not, no Kayak to fall off of etc etc. Obviously being a strong swimmer is a prerequisite. The Dad Fisherman 04-28-2008, 08:58 AM I would say the key word would be Standing.....so lets say STANDING on the EARTH and call it a day. and any further interpretation of the rules can always be brought up to the board for further discussion and/or clarification. there is also a 3rd option.....if your fish doesn't fall in either category you get a handshake and a "Nice Fish"....just no award So technically speaking, fishing in waders waist high IN the water shouldn't fall into a "shore fish" category either because you're not really standing on the shore, but in the water itself. Perhaps that should be re/considered as another different type of fishing in itself ??/??. Perhaps semi-skishing? Is that considered a shore fish??? :tooth: :hihi:  The Dad Fisherman 04-28-2008, 09:06 AM For you...no. Everybody else yes :hihi: ProfessorM 04-28-2008, 09:13 AM I am so glad he told me what a real striped bass is.:rollem: vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
