Well we have the $$$ in the bank from the gov's stimulus package and the better half agrees that I can stimulate the fishing industry by buying another reel (sigh).

I beat on the North River from shore and am looking for something pretty light to fish mono in the say 12 to 20 lb range. Maybe an extra spool loaded with 25 lb for the rocks at the cliffs with a big ole chunk.

I do have 3500,4500,6500 Baitrunners which I have alway been able to abuse except for Anti-reverse probs with the A series as well as a couple of older Penns which have seen better days.

If I gave you $150.00 right now and told you have to spend it in the next hour what reel would you go for??? Will fit it to a rod later on but thinking an eight or nine ft. med/lite action so even a short fish feels like a fish on.. Thanks guys and I know you all have a wish lish this side of VS....I am not very nice to my reels so more money won't help. I have even been known to not rinse my reels off in fresh water!!

That's pretty funny Sling.. I spent a couple of days at Pete's last week picking out a rod to put my new Shimano Sheros on. I was aiming at a Premier series St. Croix but I did not want to wait for the one that felt right so I bought a Star rod which I really don't know much about but it felt pretty good and pete said they were pretty good.

I was really looking for a good reel choice that wasn't a shimano at a price that it won't bother me to much when I drop it in the marsh mud..

I'm trying braided for the first time but I sure don't know why. Mono is cheap enough to change as needed and yuh can't own a reel without a back-up spool anyway. Hard to beleive they want 40 bucks for spare spools!!!! what a sharp stick in the eye ..

Thats interesting that shimano seems to be the choice in that price range. No slammer votes or sumpin. Could it be I should stick with the Shimano.

Oh Yes!! The Spheros comes with a spare spool which Is a HUGE benifit!!

Quantum Cabo.

That makes three great choices.

And if the Cabo seems expensive the Boca is pretty good too.

Four choices then!

I thought the new Stradics were like a duece???....comes with 2 spools though....Spheros you get 1 spool....so about 150 with 2 spools..

The Cabo is a good one...I had a Boca and was not impressed

I have the new Penn in a 400 size and am very impressed....it looks and feels a bit like a Stradic and is much less money...might be worth a try

I'm going on my 3rd Spheros and I couldn`t be happier! A 6000, then a 8000 and now I upgraded to a 14000 for the expected bigger tuna. Last year I had tuna to 50# on that 8000, thought it would blow up any second, but it handeled it admirably.

I own both spheros 7000, I believe too lazy to check, and a quantum boca. Have had the spheros longer and its holding up better, although ive had little/zero problems with both.
I bought the penn silverado for schoolies and fresh water, most likely couldnt handle any tunoids (if i found em even) but will save you $$$ for gas or lures :)
