Do you guys know anything about it? Will a web cam work? I'm having a problem with things missing from my backyard at night, I have a motion spot light already but they don't seem to care, I think I know who is doing it, just need proof. I want something that I can record with my PC and is not too expensive.

Kind of pricey but looks like what I'm looking for. Is software needed too? Can it be hidden?

nope everything you need comes with the camera.
you can have it email you stills or drop video to a location of your choice. i believe it does both ftp and share locations.

we have ours in a weatherproof box. i suppose you could add some camoflage to it :hidin:

you can also use the client software to make a pc a video "station" where you don't need the ftp or wrkgrp share. it talks directly with the camera

i would recommend not hidding it at all, use it as a deterent. The more visible, the better the deterent. Just make sure its someplace that it can't be easily stolen.

they supposedly have cheap cameras that take pics with a motion sensor. My friends son left his in his deek stand to see deer and turkeys go by. Not sure how well it would work in dark

you can do continous recording, scheduled, or motion activated.

continuous will eat up your hard drive pretty quick

I do this for a living. You want to be able to record this on a DVR and burn to disk for the cops. It's a little pricey. I'll PM you. We set up DVR systems on most of our new construction jobs. Clients can log on to a static IP address from anywhere and remotely access. Also, you want a day/night camera with good resolution or you won't be able to make out the person. There are a few product lines we use and I'd be happy to tell you where to go. Good luck.

BJ's had some systems for about $150. I think it went to a VCR , not to a computer though.

I'm more inclined just to bring the stuff in. Shooting people or buying dvr security systems ends up costing too much.

I wish I had more info for you Dave since I am not a techie but I have a good friend who does this with his condo in Thailand.

He does it very cheap. Motion detector turns on a mini camera and sends it to a laptop. It can be emailed from there to where ever you are. I saw footage of one break in, they ended up sending the kid to the monkey house in Thailand. It wasn't real good quality video but ok, esp if you know who you think it is.

I do know that this was not at all pricecy for him. Less than a hundred easy but you need a computer to record it.

Sorry to here that , Dave.
I think their are some law enforcement people on this site that can help with the camera stuff and having it stick in court
I had the kids who broke into my house on camera @ a store cashing in change 1 hr after the break in happened and even had them admit to my son thay did it and lo and behold there still out and have committed many other crimes since , they still walk around the neighborhood . If I did something now I'd be behind bars in a heartbeat, sorry for your material losses ,
We can only hope what come's around goes around
