View Full Version : Warranty/Brake Question?
BigFish 05-12-2008, 11:22 AM My wifes car is an 06' Nissan. 20,000 miles on it and still under warranty. Brakes are squeaking so we bring it in to have it looked at (mind you its under warranty) and we are told it needs new pads? Not covered under the warranty?? Cost is $230.00??? First question......I know it could go to wear and tear but new pads at 20,000 miles???? Come on!!! My truck has 50,000 miles on it....same brakes!!! Don't you think that given the number of miles on the car this should be covered under the warranty????
Also......they did not have the pads for her car in stock, claimed they "called around" looking for some but nobody had them so they had to order them??!! Now we have to blow another friggin day dropping her car off......again!!! I am willing to bet that if I call 1 other Nissan dealership, that they will have the pads in stock???
Raven 05-12-2008, 11:34 AM 230 for pads is way to high
especially since it's not covered under the warranty
you shouldn't be having it done there
also there is a huge difference in the quality
of brake pads and for an 06 the origionals had
to be a lower quality brake pad...
i know because i was delivering them and rotors (brake parts) for awhile
and at the parts store the good ones were in a separate area than the cheapos...
So Unless Angie drives around like a wild woman with her foot constantly on the brakes because she's driving way to fast
than the origional brake pads were cheapos quality to begin with.
i'd get on the phone and call around BF and compare .
BigBo 05-12-2008, 11:36 AM 20K and pads are worn already? Something isn't right. I do a lot more stop and go driving into Boston and just replaced mine at 56K
No way they should be worn at 20K. And a set of pads should be @ $25 retail.
I can see this thread moving to the GOP forum before it's done.
chief10 05-12-2008, 11:44 AM all dealerships charge extra. if it's not covered go some where else for less money and I want to know what nissan dealership is. My altima is still under warranty and needs front brakes.
Slingah 05-12-2008, 11:53 AM does she drive with both feet???? :heybaby:
BigFish 05-12-2008, 12:01 PM Coastal in Norwell......I don't like the smell I am getting! Something never seems right about that place?!
chief10 05-12-2008, 12:07 PM It's the same everywhere and if they treat you right it's only for a short amount of time.Find some one else and FYI stay away from the guy bruce something down by the hanover mall. used to be located in the building walmart is in, then in the mobil in front of the mall. complete criminal with hack artists for employees.
Raven 05-12-2008, 12:09 PM trust your nose :kewl:
hey larry...ask how many miles a brake job is good for every where else.
BigFish 05-12-2008, 12:13 PM Just called 2 other local dealerships and they have them in stock.....fronts are about 75.00 and rears are about 65.00.
What the dealership told my wife was that there was "something" on the pads and that if she wanted to get rid of the sqeaking sound she needed to replace the pads,,,,her cost!!!!!! Sounds to me like they are looking to remedy the situation and still make a buck!
BigFish 05-12-2008, 12:19 PM Their parts dept. tells me they are in fact out of both pads......still don't the dealerships generally get them from another dealer if they have a need??? Or no???
Lastly.....should I insist that they replace the pads under the warranty as the squeak is not our problem??? Especially if there are still miles left on the pads????:splat:
I am gonna blow!:splat:
Raven 05-12-2008, 12:21 PM well it better had not be brake fluid?
because that part is covered under warranty
if something broke
that is... brake fluid wise..
even though the pads are not...
but if a part breakage caused a leak....... they are liable
it would seeem to me
but,,,thats a tough call now...
Raven 05-12-2008, 12:25 PM then it goes away...
maybe theres more squeekable material when the pads
are worn down by 20,000 miles ...and i am not trying
to make a joke...by saying that...
usually squeaks are metal to metal.....
Raven 05-12-2008, 12:29 PM yeah when they are out of them they'd order from the company i was driving parts for.....they'd have them within an hour
i delivered to plenty of dealerships.... because they wanted the better quality brake pad we stocked..
Slingah 05-12-2008, 12:30 PM did you spray wheel cleaner on the rims??? maybe something with silicone on it??...just a thought...or maybe it is just dust....if they say pads are still okay...why replace??....
BigFish 05-12-2008, 12:32 PM Its the squeak that is driving Angie crazy...and no I did not spray anything on them......the car does feel like it shudders a bit when I stop it?? I will be picking the car up so I will ask them about the pads....how much life is left on them etc.:af:
Slingah 05-12-2008, 12:34 PM cars suck...
BigBo 05-12-2008, 12:40 PM If the car "shudders" a bit when stopping, make sure the rotors are okay and not warpped. They can warp if they don't get enough air cooling and then wear the pads prematurely. Common Chrysler/Jeep problem.
UserRemoved1 05-12-2008, 01:57 PM jeepers creepers none of you guys ever heard of glazed pads? That's what makes them squeak. Not the cars fault that they got overheated and glazed? The glazing is what is "on" the pads. Replace the pads. Tell her to not ride the brakes, take her foot off the brake pedal and let the pad release from the rotor after you stop even if it's a 1/8 turn of the tire.. It causes excess heat to build up in the pads and they glaze. Once it's been glazed it will never ever stop squeaking because you can't get the stuff off. The 2001 Quigley had a huge problem with glazed front pads. I'd sometimes replace them after 5000 miles. Solution was to go to ultra cheapy pads. Get rid of the ceramic/semi metallic stuff as that will cause glazing more often than not. If they can do a front brake job properly for $75 I'd be looking for someplace else to take it to because it's too cheap and they're not doing something... Last brake job on my SUV was $700.
BigFish 05-12-2008, 03:31 PM Salty is 100% correct......they are glazed!!! Won't do any good to tell her not to ride the brakes!:smash:
Slingah 05-12-2008, 04:03 PM does she drive with both feet???? :heybaby:
uhum.......that is what i meant
tattoobob 05-12-2008, 05:03 PM You should be able to change the pads yourself and save the labor price
Squid kids Dad 05-12-2008, 06:02 PM You should be able to change the pads yourself and save the labor price
True..Buy if they are pulsating when stopping the rotors may need to be resurfaced..
Swimmer 05-12-2008, 07:38 PM My wife doesn'rt speed going down the road, but is still doing 30 m.p.h. 20 feet before she has to turn. She wondered why her front pads wear out. Just about every time I ride with her I ask her to not drive into the corner, slow down first and flow through the corner. Dirty look:af:...........and then I say you'd think you were a cop chasing somebody. That always gets her. I'd still get those rotors turned also.
MotoXcowboy 05-12-2008, 10:37 PM try to explain to her she needs to be a little easier on the brakes or you will most likely have this problem again in 20,000.
:deadhorse:
HESH2 05-13-2008, 06:42 AM most pads have a strip on back of pads to stop squeeks, also calipers shift and rust and can cause squeeks,no way pads should be worn out at 20 k.check you warantee book call the 800 number and see if they can do anything for you.dealership basically blew you off, they could have gotten pads from another dealer or parts store.mfg will often make goodwill adjustments.
