We need a thread to show and tell, credit other builders, and brag a bit about your own stuff. If you get a decent fish on your own or someone else's plug, lets see it. We all learn and it keeps the juices flowing. At the end of the season I'll do a random drawing of anyone (other than me) who posts a fish and give away some plugs.

I'll go first. Traded Paul (Prof M) for this sweet little swimmer (sort of a Beachmaster schoolie style). Fished it for 2 weeks now with hardly a sniff from small fish. Looked so good I stuck with it. Tonight was my reward. 3 fish @15-18# (on a Arra 1083 ). Thanks Paul, you got robbed :heybaby:

George, I think This threads a great idea...

Here's a picture of a nice fish my dad got last night. We only get to fish together about 10-15 nights a year so we hit it pretty hard when we get the chance. We covered a lot of ground the past 2nights, falmouth to plymouth. We ran into Cranium at one spot this am.

My dad's goto plug for a lot of years has been the needlefish, so last night I threw one I made for him in the bag even though we intended to fish swimmers at night and pencils/poppers at dawn. And you know that one needlefish plug is the only one we could could get them to hit consistantly.

This fish was a 22 lb racer, big head & no gut... The needle took a pretty good beating, it was new yesterday. I'm psyched I had the camera, and even more amazing is the picture actually came out good considering it was 2am ish and we were out in the water...

Chris, that sucks. I thought that having a siwash on the tail would prevent them from leveraging the belly hook against the tail hook.
I've done that on plugs with 2 trebles but never on one with a siwash on the tail.

yeah, i'm really fortunate that the one hook dug in after bouncing off of the frame of my glasses..... I felt the other set of trebles bounce off of my right lense.... I was with my buddy Orlando and we had to take a 2 mile walk off of the beach. He removed the plug from the wolverine triple splits on the spot and we laughed, I said ouch and then got to the Westerly ER. The nurses and dr. couldn't believe how close it had come to my eye. It was a freakish accident. I was reeling in and hit something. Gave it a simple pop, as we all do, and a wave caught the plug and rocketed at my face...

A teen fish on a 'Scotty' ballerina from the mini swap 2 years ago. I'd been saving that one. It's real big and I thought it might take a big fish to take it... I'd never used a ballerina before but I guess if you can walk it, it works.

And complete heartbreak on one of my herring pencils... That's a 6/0mustad stainless siwash and a 6X 3/0 vmc . Looks like I get to join PNG :bc: That fish followed and swiped at that pencil from the point that it landed to within 40 feet of shore. Pushing water with that big head all the way. Must have hit it 10 -12 times before it finally took it. I almost wish I hadn't got to see the fish...

:eek:That will break your heart.....particularly when you think you got it covered using a 6x. Sometimes I think the tail hook is the problem. It pins the tail and creates a fulcrum where the leverage can pull the belly hook apart. How big do you reckon she was, and did she head my way by any chance?

I'm not complaining, Paul. In fairness to Flap he did let me know once he found out Thurs afternoon. I had to work Fri. The day I should have gone was Thurs am. I did consider it, but chose to spend myself fishing elsewhere all night Weds pm. Came up empty. So it goes. Truth is the canal is not my cup of tea (nor is chasing fish reports). I'm glad so many guys who work it so hard finally got their deserved reward, however.

beauty.

George you did what you like and that is what is important. I personally didn't work hard for the fish, other than loose sleep. I am lucky to have several friends, mostly retired, i have got to know over the years that keep me in the loop. They called me on Sunday night and then on Tuesday and told of the issuing fishing, although i do mark those set of tides on the chart months in advance. I would have to give all credit to them and i hope I can reciprocate the info this year at some time fishing my favorite areas.

on the right is from top, a pikie I made a bunch of, a RM Smith danny that the bass wouldn't leave alone, then a spook modeled after a jigman spookk in that olivy color, a pearl white pikie I made, then a junior from Mike Thomas at M&D's

That is a skinny danny (though really more of a donny shape). Been a good plug for me and a few others. AYC, Lefty 2 mid slot, and the weight a little aft of center. About 3oz. Casts well, swims at very slow retrieves, rolls a ton (it actually will do barrel rolls with a sharp twitch). You can't pop it. Stays barely subsurface and doesn't leave much wake. I'd expect it to suck, but it has become one of my most productive plugs. Go figure. Here is a close up with a fish a lurker named Earlybird took. As an aside, the conrad jr's have proven to be very useful as well, particularly off jetties.

indeed. i always fished swimmers that swam on top at night, then went to a McKenna presentation where he talked alot about keeping your presentation subsurface, even if only an inch or two. I tried it and my results improved, especially in terms of size. Now the problem is finding good subsurface swimmers. Juniors and loaded redfins are my favorites so far, with the exception of conrads in deep enough water.

ah G. it is just a home made knock off hunk of stainless. I used the chrome one. They are all homemade. I can't see spending and losing a 35 dollar lure. Easy enough to make myself. I just buy the weights which they sell separate. Bitch is bending the stainless. They do work real well for big fish as I have gotten several over 45 the last several years, but you really need to use wire which most people hate. The fish I got last week swallowed the whole lure which is the first time i had that happen. Usually you don't get a real good hook up because of the wild action of the lure. I never count on a spoon caught fish until it is in the boat as i have lost some beauties right at boat side because of crappy hook ups.

Way cool. I've always wanted to catch something on one of those. Got a couple of Reliable versions, and fooled with them once or twice, but never seriously fished them. Wire doesn't bother me, I kinda like it actually, but haven't done any trolling for some years now. Used to be my go to method for big bass. Getting an itch to try it again. Have you dragged any of those slopeheads you built?

ProfessorM
07-19-2008, 07:50 PM
Yeah G. they work real well sometimes. Been the only thing working for me so far. Most times if you are lucky enough to hook up it is usually a good fish. Rod is important too with them. I have not tried any of the slopeheads yet but maybe in the near future if the T&W fishing does not get better for me. I do have few in my tackle trunk.

Had the same idea. Beautiful night to be alive and fishing. Too bright, too calm, too low, was pretty slow but got this one out of nowhere. 24 lbs, hit like an express train while I was expecting nothing. Took a big donny surface swimmer clone.

Fred,
Wednesday night I was fishing the big olive scaled atom style plug you gave me last year for the sol plugathon. I had on a real nice fish that hit the plug in a real bad spot. I ended up pulling the hooks trying to keep it from running around a rock. :smash::smash::smash:

I don't know whether to be happy or sad about that. We call that an "Ooooooooooh":eek5: moment. So, so close and yet so far away... Glad it gave you a rush tho.. Thanlks for the feedback:wave:

Caught this one about a month ago on a homemade trolling style swimmer(gibbs style) 30lbs 44" My personal best on a homemade so far... hoping to beat it this fall. I've also taken fish up to 25lbs on a professor m needle.... the fish love it. Took 2 fish on a blurple swimmer from slipknot as well. Thanks for the plugs guys.

How big a plug is that pikie? If that's a Moore's pikie lip, then that is some substantial fish. Gotta love jointed plugs. Nicely done.

Gary has his lips made for his plugs . I think they're made in like Germany .. I had a bunch of his plugs for Mac auction a couple of years ago . Glass eyes, mint paint ,, each one in its own fleece bag ,, Huge plugs ..Moore's pikie lip would look like a lefty on the plug I have ..

Jigman spook has been THE go-to plug along the islands this year (after Eddy schooled us with it last fall). Any plug that can pull up decent bass at a tough time of year under bright sun conditions is a quality design. Today, 11 am.

Nice! Let's see, at 11 am today I was haulin' a years worth of bedding, clothes and sundry supplies up a flight of stairs on Brookline Ave in Boston moving the youngest back into her dorm. I knew I was getting vibes from somewhere.

Well, the oldest is Dublin for three months, the youngest in Beantown and the wife is back in her classroom welcoming the new class of kindergarteners back tomorrow.

The cape gets quiet and the fall is on. Been a long two weeks it's my turn now!

Tagger, is that the troller or the giant diver? I think its the troller. Haven't throw that one yet. Hoping to get into some fish on the new and try it out. I don't typically carry my only rod that can throw it. I have a jointed troller that's simply huge. Here's one on the giant diver. Also, one on an eelskin needle for flap and numbskull.

Here's one

I don't know ... a 1209 would throw it, but who would want too .. too much work .. I'd rather hang drywall than throw 7.5 all night . I'm thinking a Troller also Josh ..
