My best buddy is in bad shape. My 4 yo Weimerainer dog that is. Just got back from the Emergency Animal Clinic. He hasn't been himself for a couple of days, vet told me it may be a reaction to the Rabies shot he had last week. Tonight he couldn't even walk, my son had to carry him into the house, we got him to lay down on a blanket but he was crying in pain, his stomach appeared real swollen and hunched over. I thought for sure he had Bloat which is usually fatal. I put him in the car and rushed him to the 24/7 vet, they did xrays and blood work and figure sonething passed thru his intestine, scraping or puncturing the wall causing a bacterial infection, They are keeping him overnight on IV fluids and antibiotics. I'm hoping all will go well for him, with all the other things going on in my life now, I don't need to loose him.. I have to pick him up a 7:30 then watch him closely for 3 days...Praying,,,,Now to figure what to sell to cover the 1st bill of $511.00

Thoughts and prayers are most definitely sent for the 2 of you.

Did they determine for sure that his intestines got punctured? If it did then get ready for emergency surgery because they can go septic fast, that's what happened to my Rottie and it was VERY expensive. With any luck and a helping hand from the BIG GUY above  this won't be the case.

Was he lathargic at all? Did he have any ticks on him lately?

I'm rooting for you's both for a simple cause and a speedy recovery!

If you need to vent or some questions answered drop me a PM.

Just talked to the vet, he was not doing good overnight. Vet tells me he had to do emergency surgery, I guess he had a puncture in his intestine that they had to repair. Then he tells me they had a problem with the operating tables heating pad and it put a bad burn on his back.. WTF.. Then he tells me he is not out of the woods yet, may not know for 3 or 4 days. I am heartbroken but where do you draw the line? How much do you put him thru?? As of now I owe the vet $2000.. I can't take anymore stress...WTF

my friend lu's dog hat got hit by a car and it's intestines got knocked into a different spot than where they were supposed to be
and nobody ever knew it... eventually after it was discovered
they turned them around and straightened them out again and the dog was fine after that...

So the ability for your dog to recover is phenomenal
is my point...

an intestinal hole...? though

thats a whole different problem. geesch
i've never even heard of that in a dog before.

I'm so sorry to hear this Dave...
of Smokey getting ill. I hope he feels better fast.
Hang in there and i hope you get some stress relief too.......soon.

Sometimes they come back right from the brink. I put my cat in the vet a few months ago , she was all but dead and I got a call from the vet recommending i put her down. i said wait one more night and don't you know the next morning she was up and walking about after being paralized for 3 days before. She has been fine since. Don't give up hope.

Fish, I'm really sorry to hear about Smokey. I lost my buddy Nemo 3 years ago after 13 long years. He was a Chocolate Lab, and grew up on our boat while we were commercial lobstering. Dogs are loyal companions and both you and Smoke will have many thoughts and prayers.

Thanx again guys.. It's been a real tough day..I can't see him (they have him sedated and don't want to excite him) and that is all that is on my mind.. Now I have a Doc appointment of my own this afternoon, epidural in my back, just what I feel like doing now.. WTF!! What else is gonna go wrong??!!

Dave...

I am TRULY sorry at your loss. To anyone thats not a 'dog person' its hard to explain our relationships with them. My dog LadyBelle is my best freind and one of the family.

When we had our last dog, Jazzy beagle, put down it was HARD. What we did was to go out and find a rescue dog. We could'nt replace Jazzy, and, we did'nt want to, but, Lady filled a big hole left when jazzy passed. Lady has turned out to be an awesome dog with tons of personality. I am so glad we have her. I'd like to think she's glad to have us to. I know ole Jazzybeagle would be happy we helped another dog too.

Peace my freind
Tim
