We need to remind ourselves what it's all about.

Our heritage and the men and women who have sacrificed and died for our freedoms and way of life.

God Bless them and their families.

I was listening to Fox Sports News the other (early morning) and the announcer was saying Memorial Day is for thanking our troops overseas. We should thank our troops overseas everyday for putting their skin on the line but Memorial Day is for us to truly thank all of those that have made the ultimate sacrifices for our country and our way of life.

Always thank a Vet and always thank those in the service of our country. But always, especially this weekend, give thanks and remembrance for those that gave their lives in defending this country and providing out freedom.

Regardless of your political bent, also be sure to explain to your children that the freedoms we enjoy today never came free. They were earned by the souls of men and women that dies for our country.

(this shouldn't be in scuppers - moving to front page)

I second that. The Front page is perfect.I'm gonna have that yearly talk with my son about how his great grandpa fought in a big war doing two tours to fight for everything that we all take for granted on a daily basis.Hopefully he grows to respect our servicemen and women as much as I for doing their job .

The Striper fishing community never ceases to amaze me. That front page is FANTASTIC.

Thank you to all who have or will serve our country so we can live the lives we live. Thank you to all who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

If You;re Reading This
By Tim McGraw

If you’re reading this
And My mama's sitting there
Looks like I only got a one-way ticket over here
I sure wish I could give you one more kiss
And war was just a game we played when we were kids
Well I’m laying down my gun
I’m hanging up my boots
I’m up here with God
And we’re BOTH watching over you

So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed that it would go
And if you’re reading this
I’m already home

If you’re reading this
Half way around the world
I won’t be there to see the birth of our little girl
I hope she looks like you
I hope she fights like me
Stands up for the innocent and the weak
I’m laying down my gun
I’m hanging up my boots
Tell dad I don’t regret that I followed in his shoes

So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed that it would go
And if you’re reading this
I’m already home

If you’re reading this
There’s gonna come a day
When you move on and find someone else
And that’s okay
Just remember this
I’m in a better place
Where soldiers live in peace
And angels sing Amazing Grace

So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed that it would go
And if you’re reading this
If you’re reading this
I’m already home

Thanks to all men and women of the armed services and Thanks to all Vets.
Freedom comes at a cost and I hope we all don't take it for granted.
God bless America
