Hello... I apologize if this has been asked many times, I tried looking through back pages and I am starting to see double.
I am an airbrush artist that has work with many mediums. I would love to dabble in the creation of plugs. My boyfriend is an avid fisherman and asked me to make some for him. I thought it would be fun but when I do something artistic I want to do it correctly.
I have seen many posts on different painting techniques, but have yet to find one that's a "how to".
So here goes:
1: Do you have to prep the wood prior to adding any type of paint?
i.e sealer of some type?
2: What types of paint are used for:
a: hobby type lure painting?
b: Functional and can withstand saltwater?
c: High end painted lures that last, are functional yet also works of art?
(this is what im shooting for)
3: some type of clear coat over the top I am assuming
I have worked a few times with wood base and I have had some issues. I dont want to put a lot of work into something and have it bubble, or crack over time
I have many types of paints and airguns in my inventory from dual action detail guns to HVLP's. When painting vehicles I use House of Kolor but not sure this type of paint can be used in this application. I would love to use them as they work great through an airgun.
if this HAS been gone over, please feel free to slap me and direct me to the thread :D
