. . . and what a day. It figures, I made the call to go fishing yesterday Tuesday afternoon, figured it would be the worst day of the week weather-wise to go, that the fish would bite. The forecast called for 2-4' seas but once we got outside, the whole place was calm as calm could be, not glass as it was raining all day long, but calm and about no swell save for the ride home.

Here is the ride out, there will be raindrops the the lens of this waterproof camera;

Here are the shorelines that we drifted past and along all day long. Just idle up to set up drift, cut motor, tilt up and we cast our swimmers and poppers all day long.

All day long, with my topwater plug, I could get wicked long casts with my 7' rod and 12 lb test and once landed, I would pop the lure once or twice from about 40-50 yards out and on the 2nd to 3rd twitch, I'd get an explosion! I would make sure to let the fish take the lure instead of setting the hook as from experience, I have pulled the lure away far too many times than to make the mistake anymore. It was similar to live eel fishing. The lure would get boiled on or hit and I'd wait until it was underwater then set and hope that the hook would stick.

Once in the waters just over boulder fields, as the water was so calm this day, we would cast our lures past the boulders and we could see as our swimmers would pass either over the rocks or to the side, the fish come up to either nail our lures or to just casually bite. I suspect that the overcast and rain made these fish less skittish and more apt to bite with abandon.

The most entertaining was getting the popper down, waiting, then twitching, on the 2nd splash a decent sub legal bass jumped clear out of the water right behind the lure then the much larger bass inhaled my popper, the smaller one must have wanted to take the lure but when he saw big momma coming got the heck out of the way, I'd never seen it before.

Anyhow, enjoy.
