Two nights ago under a bright (near-) Full Moon I had (in my 16' boat-) Bass in shallow water of 39, 32, 28, 26 & 20 lbs. (all released/ all approx. weights except the #39 weighed in my net)... :buds:

& was thinking, "bright Full Moon is fine in the shallows-- guys are negative about bright nights for no reason!" ;)

Then last night: same places, same conditions/ bright clear Moonlit sky, & same approach: no fish at all, Midnight 'till 10 AM! :crying:

Very cool. Ive gone as far as to look at moon phase records and check dates that have gone down as significant dates in Striped bass history.

Last nights full moon was quite a site. Orange ball rising on the eastern horizon around 9pm - looked more like a sunrise. Clouds rolled in around 10... then the bite started. Did very well considering the phase - ran out of eels. Key was tying direct.

Bite was non-existant... It was also dead low, so that didn't help either.

DZ, Had time for an unexpected quick outing last night. Saw the big orange ball out in front of Newport. You're right, it looked like a sunrise - I had to do a time check. Great view. I got chased off with the lightning at about 9:15 (couldn't stay much past 10 anyway). Got into blues only. Should have had more stones to stay. Lightning was off in the distance, but looked like it was heading my way.

Go chased off the water twice by lightning last night. All I got for my effort was a bunch of cigar butt eels and a couple of blues.

No kidding, as I walked towards the beach the moon was like a giant flashlight beam. It was golden, quite a sight.:eyes:

that would be pritty sweet to see it the other way around. be on the moon and see the earth like that.

It was awesome, also we had as many bass as we wanted, they didn't seem to care about the moon or head lamps or anything they just wanted to eat and eat they did

fished this am, lots of small fish nothing over 28"

tonight 9pm got to the water with some eels and plugs...sun set it was pretty dark. Through a 2.5 ounce black and green Tatoo swimmer got 2 30in fish right away... then the firball moon came up... through on an eel = NO FISH ... damn moon it was F*in real bright. left at 11:30. not a single cloud in the sky.

hopefully tomorrow night clouds will role in.

I remember a night this time last year during full moon where all our fish were taken during large clouds passing over. Once the cloud cleared and everything brightened, no action again until the shadow returned. We started casting along the shadow line and did OK with lots of schoolies mixed in with a few keepers. I always get a little more excited on Full moon nights when it's cloudy (New Moon conditions). Plus, the blues leave faster during dusk when it darkens more coompletely. But, I fish when I have the opportunitiy and will still fish a Full.

I have found fishing in full moon phase when the water temps are right like June and October to be just fine.
