Sorry-- but dropping live Eels from a boat off the South side of the Porkchop at night...

is about the closest thing to "shooting fish in a barrel" as exists in the Striper Universe! :nailem: --

ALONG with wire- line trolling of Umbrella rigs, Pogy Yo- yo-ing... and wire- line big Spoon trolling... :yak5:

That might explain why the guy seemed hardly excited by the catch until the weigh- in! :sleeps:

Now... pitching Wood from the beaches there for that same fish/ goal: THAT'S "high art," relatively speaking!

Those commercial rod-and-reel guys who fish Block Island from a boat alone at night are scary good.

Great point Joe. I wonder how many of the surf guys who denegrate the boat guys would run to the Block at night alone.
I really tired of the boat vs. surf BS. I did the surf for 40 years. I've done the boat for 3. Sure it's easier in the boat but a 60 is a 60 and I don't care where you caught it. It's huge accomplishment.

No, "Fishaholic"... a clown is someone who freely calls other people "clowns," for nothing more than having an (educated/ experienced/ valid) opinion that differs from his own!

ESP. when it's based upon a "personal" stupid 'Net grudge-- still fresh I'm sure in some memories here: you I recall called me a "clown" then because I was anti- burning G'berry... & you were "pro" doing so ('cause you never fish there?...). Yup-- you sure showed me a "clown" then I guess! (Or was it vice- versa... thus the continued hen- pecking/ grudge you do so well? :)

As to here... fine, at worst I shouldn't move this "congrats" thread to a "discussion" one-- but my opinion stands! And I know many others here would share it... so they can all wear your "clown" label too I guess? I'll be bigger than you: I refuse to escalate your "feud" w/ me for again then being right!

As for topic: congrats to any who land a 60+ obviously! But you FaH can celebrate & admire the catches YOU wish to-- Umbrella or Yo- Yo landed or Commercial/ for $, or whatever...

AND I'll continue to celebrate the catches of MY "heros"/ most admired Striper guys! (i.e., M. Malenovsky, 64 lb. from Montauk Lights' rocks... T. Coleman, 67 lb. ( :smokin: ) from the SHORE of Block! (NOT a bigger feat? Back in the pre- 80 lb. Braid days?)... Our own DZ, not one but two 50's on plugs from Shore there too... T. Cee, 57 lb. just a few years ago from Cape sand full of Seals!... T. Szetzko, 73 ( ) from same sand many years before... etc.! :musc:

Everybody else: hold your opinions here on S-B & just Post blandly... lest FaH call your thoughts "clownish!" :bshake:

the true clown is the one who is dependent on cathing big fish on live bait only from shore or boat and considers a snag hook "fishing with artificials" :hihi:

A 62 lb bass is a rare catch indeed and is worthy of acclaim regardless of how it was caught.

WHO possibly could you be referring to? (sounds like inside info.?) :)

Me... I don't call anyone a clown!

(At least not 'till they set up right next to me on an otherwise uncrowded Beach!... or mug me from their boat when I've found a daytime shore- bite, etc.)

Gunpowder... ... no one here even remotely called Mark a "clown!" (or anything else...) This is why careful reading of what people write here is important before passing judgments... & hitting "save!" :faga:

... AS that "major contributor" here FaH chose to do! As you see... HE was the only one throwing around the "clown" insult like a typical third Grader who only cares about his own opinions! :rollem:

Mark is obviously a hardcore & thus one of "us"-- no one was negative about him at all! Just was a lament here about how exciting & what big news that big gal would have been at the end of one of our lines while shorebound & fishing (lighter) surf- tackle, was all... (Wasn't looking to cause controversy-- I didn't even participate in that "Surf vs. Boat" thread now going on!)

FaH: :bshake: -- no surprise your Post as usual is few to no words, nor of any general interest: I just read (skimmed) your last 50 here on S-B... & let's just say, "where's the beef?" :rtfm:

Nice that you have "hot" celeb. chicks pics at the ready on your Computer like that... :rollem: I WONDER what you use those for when not launching infantile attacks for personal/ grudge reasons on fishing websites against strangers? (Starts with "beating" I'm guessing?...) :deadhorse:

Me? I have a 25 yr. old GF keeping me busy... :) thus no chick- pics to oogle ever needed on MY computer! :humpty:

uhh, yeah but Fishaholic can outfish you shore or boat, blindfolded. An d as you skimmed his 50 posts, did you see him belittle anyone's fish? I doubt it, but you felt the need to do it, so thus the "clown" title. If you need to put down others accomplishments to make you feel better, more power to you. Fishing is fishing, boat or surf.
Was it an accomplishment when your "idols" were catching trophies in the Snowstorm Bilitz? Any dolt with a rod and lure could have caught them too if they were there. Kind of like shooting fish in a barrel, no?

LeCounts1099

Well, RIJ... In a word: No! (& I don't accept challenges to manhood/ surf- prowess from those I don't know-- & who are obviously biased so will never judge fairly! Others I'll take on gladly! :)

Preparation & focus & desire & carefully maintained equipment (esp. pre- VS & ZB...) PLUS being in the right place at the right time = DZ's accomplishment that you want to diminish-- same thing you want to get on ME for?

And DZ did it on mono. & on an artificial from boulder- strewn shores that would scare the hardiest fisherman! :err: Kudos DZ!

Cronies out of the woodwork will come here I'm sure!

Congrats Mark-- you're in the "Sixty" club! I've been working my ass off to join you for many years-- I'm just going the shore & plug route like my personal Bass "heros" did! Hey, Iron Mike! :smokin:

Ahhh...nice fish but anyone can catch a 62 lb fish if they have 2 arms. You should try it with one arm like my heroes, "Lefty" Loosey (ca. 1964)or "Right Hand" Mary (July 12, 1983 in 4 foot seas).

Gimme a break it's a great fish by an experienced angler and somebody has to belittle it by comparing it to fish in a barrel because it's not the way they fish. Absolutely unbelievable.

Again, GREAT JOB, MARK!!

Let's make this even more polarizing - he caught it with a Van Staal :rotflmao:

Seriously, I think we are over analyzing this. We are not talking about a situation where some person that had never casted to bass before lands a 60 at their feet by sheer luck. We are talking about someone that used a proven method from a proven platform that was lucky enough to have this fish before him and skilled enough to do something about it.

Circumstances are what are put in front of you and what you do with them plus some lady luck.

Oooops - work beckons...
