View Full Version : reports
let's see some reports. someone must be catching. i snuck out for a few hours on monday and we found some birds and schoolies and i fished a river today and had a few schoolies. there a still some tinkers around, one hit my teaser monday. i was up in maine over the weekend and the macks were thick. saw one guy w/ a few totes.
Fishwisha 06-25-2008, 03:48 PM My buddy ( lucky guy) caught a 37 inch bass in the river last night.
numbskull 06-25-2008, 07:57 PM This is the best we could do today, but he did drop a fish about #30 (along with a vintage BM danny), when I failed to check the kid's leader after he caught a rat blue.

C'mon numby... Kid looks old enough to know better.

Back Beach 06-27-2008, 06:09 AM Been getting large fish from shore pretty steadily since late May. So far the best spring I've had for quality fish since the early 90's. I've taken close to 20 fish in the 25-33# range so far from the surf and countless high teen to low 20# size. Everything on rubber and wood except for one fish. Numbskull will be proud of me.Hopefully it will continue with the new moon coming up.

You're probably catching more large fish on one tide then I've caught all year....but you're always welcome.
steve 06-27-2008, 07:39 AM Same pattern as last three seasons here in Narragansett. Very good in April and may but June has been a bust for me with large fish and schoolies. It is very disturbing that the numbers of small fish just are not there anymore. I know people cringe when the"old days" are brought up but bass fishing in general was much better in the 80's and 90's than it is now, at least from shore in my opinion.

Sadly, he and his older brother are just getting into it now. I was too intense about fishing for them when they were smaller. That and way too much high level organized sport. They've turned out well though, and what will be, will be.
fish4striper 06-27-2008, 03:54 PM Paul, There's fish in Mass Bay

Agreed 100% Steve - the general lack of consistent fish the past 3 seasons, and most noticeably the lack of schoolies where there should be many schoolies, is very disturbing. Something's wrong... The Fall of 2005 was great for me but since then... (actually, it's been off since the Bay's bunker arrived in the spring of 2006).
And due to much more important family obligations I missed April & the first 2 weeks of May this year - so that tells you how my season's been so far. Only a few teen sized fish & some schoolies.
Ive taken a few 30's.. just not talking much about them.. "those who boast always roast"
Loaded all bass
The water is warmer where you are that it is here in NJ..

Yeah but that's surface temp.
planter 06-28-2008, 09:33 AM Mountains of fish in the river but nothing to stress the little Shimano. The problem is not with the number being caught, it's the quality.
I did walk down to the river with my 14 yo daughter and her friend last noc and wet myself from laughing so hard. I set them up with fresh water tackle and little baits on barbless hooks and they were catching them 2 at a time. The trick is a slack high end tide and handfulls of minced mac.
It was like fishing for bluegills except the fish ranged from 16 to 25 inches. It sure was a blast listening to the girls squeal.
MarshCappa 06-28-2008, 10:58 AM Caught a dozen schoolies in two hours of fishing in the fog this morning. Nothing more than 27".
drifted some eels last night. very slow - but freebie had a decent fish.
Back Beach 06-29-2008, 07:06 AM From Thursday am on an old gibbs pencil.
Went a few oz shy of 30#.The fish went completely airborne when it hit the pencil. Had a treble puncture between the gills and bled so I took it home. Weighed it in for the cup, but it will hopefully get knocked off soon.
look at you fishing plugs :kewl:

Clearly he is trying not to embarrass his young family.
RIROCKHOUND 06-29-2008, 09:06 AM I can see it now.
Numby's son will bring home eels to fish.
and Numby will say "I have no son" :D
Nice fish Mike.
I still dont like you :D
piemma 06-29-2008, 09:28 AM Nice Fish Mikey!!!
I'm stuck in the same pattern and I am NOT complaining. Lot's of fish up to 25#. A bit concerned as I have not caught a schoolie this year. I should have seen one by now even with just live lining.

Amen.
1 25" on an eel. in a pod of otherwise 30-36" fish.
even throwing plugs and jigs. not one dink bass...

George,
Heheheheheee....I had to bump this thread just to show you this pic. The kid is already a natural, no eel rag needed as he bare handed it first try..
Cranium 07-06-2008, 07:26 AM Now that is a natural #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&. How old is he bb.
