I was wondering what everyone thought is the best way to fish off of bridges and large docks.

Vogt 06-29-2008, 10:53 AM Focus your efforts on the shadow lines.... niko 06-29-2008, 12:58 PM try casting parallel to the bridge/dock and drag it along that shadow line. mono works better then braid along those barnicle encrusted pilings. planter 06-29-2008, 02:19 PM Bridges and piers can be great but just keep in mind that if you do catch something you have to be able to land it. It is sure tough to pull a keeper fish straight up 20ft so you either have to have special net or a way to get to shore so you can slide the beast out of the water. Good Luck Vogt 06-29-2008, 02:37 PM When fishing bridges Ive had success with eels during the slack periods. Large fish start to move out of their holding positions and a well placed snake (in the shadows), can be lethal. SirWinston 06-29-2008, 02:49 PM Silly jouneyman question here - have always heard about fishing the shadow lines, but do you fish the lure from light to shadow, the other way around or along the shadow line? I know that the bass face upcurrent, but have always wondered whether they stage in the light or dark side of the edge.... My fishing has been in open rocks/beach areas. If anyone would not mind helping with what may be a 'duh' question for some, it would be much appreciated!!! For those who feel that this is really too dumb to ask, I freely apologise for the inconvenience. Cheers all niko 06-29-2008, 04:53 PM in the dark amongst the structure SirWinston 07-01-2008, 10:51 AM Thanks, Niko. FishermanTim 07-01-2008, 11:12 AM Since the bass are primarily "ambush hunters", they will feed along the shadow line, and will venture out if prey is close enough. Remember that bass like structure, so be prepared to lose some tackle, but also to catch plenty of fish (when baitfish are around). I've had some pretty productive nights fishing the full moon shadows cast by a bridge and a marina in Duxbury. You'd be surprised to find out just how big a fish will hunt amongst those footings. Give it a try, and hold on when you hook up! Flaptail 07-01-2008, 01:21 PM Add jetties to the mix and you have a totally underfished resource here on the Cape. Docks and marinas on the Cape....:humpty: Esspecially in a hard blow, when the surf front is too messy. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
