Any Rec. people having any luck so far this year?

Caught my limit in 1/2 hour Sunday going again tomorrow.

I cleaned like 20 pounds of meat today for the freezer:bounce:

Vineyard Sound last week, caught 12 shorts and 2 keepers, going again today :)

Buzzards bay last Saturday and Sunday, we had our best 2 days ever. All keepers were over 20" and most closer to 24". My 11 year old got a 26" on Saturday a personal best, then on Sunday his 5 year old brother got a 29", 9# beauty that we
weighed in for a state pin.

i've been doing well here in Moriches Bay on Long Island. Shallow water bucktailing (white with a strip of squid) is doing the trick. I haven't been catching a lot of fish per trip but the ones I have been catching have all been over 20".

did not do well in bb today but the bass made up for it

First time fluking in RI. I drifted around Second Beach in Newport with a bucktail and squid strips. Nothing. Not even anything that could be mistaken for a nibble.

I figured they should be around a sandy area like that.

Small ones today in Vineyard Sound, mostly just stole the bait ;)

Dinsdale, that area can be good, but it is a big area, try shorter drifts all over that place...

:D Flukin' in the fog was good yesterday off of Charlestown Beach, RI. Best was 5.14lb., but had several on either side of 4lb. 45 to 55 feet was best and white was right (most of you know what I use) Fresh squid, shiners and belly strips in combo were most of the keepers last meal. :btu: :cheers:

I watched 2 draggers pull their nets through Vineyard sound raping the sea bottom of Fluke Sunday, not much happening out there Sunday other than that, it was slow and all shorties.

has anyone been fluking the bass river area? I haven't tried it this season but I will soon hopefully.

So far, for the season, it has been as good as every other season I can remember as last season was the best of all time. Our ratio is about 4:1 shorts to keeper, sometimes a bit better, sometimes worse, what else is new? After all the take is only 5 per person. If my memory serves me correct, in the late 90's early 2000's, the limits were like 16" and 20 fish.

The dragger's are there all summer I hate them!! Its against the law to pair drag but I see it all the time.

I know I am commercial but this is why I am 100% against saltwater Lic!! What are they doing for the recreation guy?? If they cant protect the inshore fishery then what can they do??
All commercial fishing should be banded from State waters before this law happens! I will gladly give up my commercial Lic if this happens and buy a rec lic.
The fishing would be awesome! And the revenue for the state would go thru the roof as we would have such a great fishery!!

8 weeks is not a long season, my best year was 2006. Last year was spotty.

I agree, 8 weeks is not a long season at all. I know the season has been getting shorter and shorter but if it is for the long-term interest of the fishery, then I'm all for it. Kids love catching fluke because they are easy and a much better fight then BSB or Scup.

As simple a rig as can be, snap swivel, weight, cheap barrel swivel, 15-18" mono leader, 6/0 stainless J-Hook.

I was on vacation 2 weeks ago in Dennisport and took the tin boat out of Herring River I think it is, a free basicly dirt ramp, for something to do. I had fresh sandeels I raked in CC Bay and did not get a bump. Lots of rat blues but no fluke. I thought it looked good, although i have never been there, but nada. Guess I should have put in at Bass River.

I did get a keeper with my uncle who was stupid to target bass and blues when they weren't around Vineyards Sound. A 18 inches fluke and several shorts.

Just curious, have your tried using a belly of bluefish for flukes? If you get a rat blue, you can use it for flukes. I did and it worked for me.

Yeah, but I prefer a squid strip with a small baitfish or soemthign liek that. Anything works fine.

I start with squid, and right after I get one fluke I strip him up for bait. And good for day!
If I am going fishing the next day I save fluke strips to start the next day off with till I get another. I buy very very very little bait for Fluking, 1 squid and you are off!

Strip of bluefish can be deadly.
