Good news: The back trail to the lighthouse opened up yesterday. Hatches and 400 yards at the traps accessible.

Bad news: Shortly thereafter a plover was run over and the knucklehead that did it brought the corpse up to the station for a weigh in, rather than giving it a decent and private burial. Rumor has it that it was one of the lighthouse dorks.

The rangers have gone out of their way to get us out there (contrary to popular opinion, the rangers are 100% on our side, but they do not have last say). Fish and Game (the bird people) must have checked off on opening the trail. I predict that it will lead to (what else?) stricter regs on when they can open beach.

I'm off to begin a trail side shrine. I'm thinkin' a KFC bucket to start.

Yeah, no silver lining here. July 4 too - real early. Got to sit on the beach all day thinking what a wonderful world, and plotting casting for last night on my favorite stretch of beach without having to walk a mile to get there, and then the harsh reality of a ranger escort off the beach comes along. They had been talking about opening the boardwalk for a couple of hundred yards, but that will come to a screeching halt. South side was close, too.

Farrgin REDICULOUS!!!!
Mikey told me about it yesterday and I just shook my head, I feel bad for everyone but Mickey has made the most of it best he could.
You mean they run over a chick, then bring it to the station? how convenient :rollem:

Ya Tuna, a nice shine on the side of the trail would be a nice touch. Long live the plover.

After that episode, I guess I won't even bother going out there and getting my sticker:(:hang:

You take a look at that map and now realize why I quit running the beach in 03.
