Wow, Actually some hope, thanx to you guys!
I got a big Bluefish bite at the hurricane barrier today on a 4" Storm Wildeye Shad swimbait, the large teethmarks still remain....Do more stripers come this time of year or in the winter??:confused:
Does anyone know where the small stream of rushing water is, near the ferry dock?? You know that ledge you can climb onto and fish right into it? Well that's where I got bites. Does anyone suggest any baits to use here, or on the boardwalk on other side near the Fish company?? I saw , towards the end of the day, about 20 rods in the water over there!!! Why so many??!! Everyone was using dead baits, but no one was catching anything. Is there a certain time that poeple kno when fish concentrate around there??!! SSX and I were amazed.:confused: :happy:

On jig heads: Zoom fluke, Salt & Pepper clear 3" grub, 3in & 5 in Pearl Queen Cocahoe, Berlkely Shad... I haven't tried a GS Ledgerunner in there yet but we will when I get him down there :D and I also want to try the small Storms

That is a pretty good spot but I never mentioned it because it was more than a bike ride for you... Don't fish it alone.

Some people chunk in there for things other than bass, but I've never see anyone catch anything on chunk in there - even on days I've had 40 fish...

there was a guy in a little V-hull Aluminum Boat with a lil' motor who looked like he was catching fish after fish,,, he stayed around the orange floats right next to the first (closed) door of the barrier.. (is that where the warmer water is at ?)

You guys know the Flows of rushing water coming out of the pipes in back of the power-plant ? is that warmer heated water used for the power plant ? or just same temp water pumped out ?

SnS is NOT Lieing,,, there WAS like Rods w/ 20 lines in the water right off the board walk to the left of Fish Co. and the Old Harbor Marina.. Tho we didn't see anyone catch a fish..

people where using, as i seen, -Makeral, Squid, Crabs, big Porgy. and some strange looking fat round fish, not sure what it was.

(john) it sure is more then a bike ride,, but we can get rides to these places.. have you ever caught anything there around now,, or in the winter ?

We Also Walked accross the Point st. Bridge to The nice new Board Walk like thing, 'Point Street Landing' Next to where the Prov/Newport RIPTA ferry docks... right next to the power plant,, It looks like a nice place to fish,, even has Port-Pottys (just in-case :P )

As for fish: there was a bunch of snappers, vic caught a nice one jiggin a gold Spoon,, (they looked strange, and fatter,tho).

Any one ever catch any Tautog in there around now?

There was a kid there who told us the stripers are best at Low-tide,,, and they stay all winter.. (any truth?)

You hear alot of stuff about "did the fish glow" and all.

So if we catch a nice fish to eat,,, is that area okay to consume fish from? or are they like ' energized' and charged up from the power plant? i know that is a crazy question,,, but you never know :confused:

Yes, the water is heated, and although I've never caught any fish past the Hurricane barrier, I know that people catch schoolies there all winter long using bucktail jigs tipped with a plastic minnows.

you said 'past the hurricane barrier' does that mean in the open river? or inside of the barrier in-between that and Point street Bridge ?

I've never caught any fish inside the hurricane barrier, but I do know that there are guys who fish it all year round. I've had them tell me that they fish from shore there at a place called the 'hot club'. I've tried a couple times in the winter from boat, but never had any luck...yet
I have caught fish fishing from Bold Pt. in E. Providence, just on the other side of the Seekonk river. I usually fish that area in the spring rather than the end of the season, but just two weeks ago the projo fishing report said people were catching schoolies and decent-size blues. :eek:

go smaller - jig head 1/2 ounce or less is all you need...

I have caught bass there in February on white jigs with striper strip or uncle josh pork rind. Low tide seems better. Sometimes the power plant releases chlorine in the water...no fish when this happens. I have watched people in small boats catch fish after fish fishing that outflow from the plant.
What I do is let the jig drift out with the flow then jig it back slow and deep. I have had the most success that way...good luck!

SS, white jigheads? or white bucktail jigs? and like john R said, a good combo would be 1/2 ounce bucktail and a striper strip/pork rind? Does uncle josh make Striper strips??

yes, bucktails with porkstrip.
I buy them at Quaker lane bait shop. I think they are Uncle Josh.

SS, what size bucktails would U reccomend, and (since I can't go to Quaker lane often) how long can I keep those pork strips, will they go bad or lose there effect, if I buy stock and keep em for like a year??:eek: :D

The size of the jig depends on how cold the water is and how fast that water is flowing. The smallest size you can get by with to get down to the fish (I'll use a 1/2 ounce). The pork strips come in a jar of "brine" liquid.. it keeps it fresh. Just put it back in the jar when you are done fishing..if you dont it will harden on the jig. I think you will find it at any bait store or even WalMart.

Actually, at K-mart, I see "Uncle Josh Sea Rind" will this be OK for the jigs??
Also I have the bucktails that are like 4 or 5 inches long, I think they are 2 or 3 ounce, will they work, or do Winter stripers like smaller baits??
I always get the impression that if Stripers want to chace a meal, especially if they are in a dormant stage from the cold weather, they will want to chace a bigger meal??:confused:
