View Full Version : habs night n gals? hyefisherman2 07-07-2008, 05:45 PM what sizes did john make? i know he made 1.5oz ones, but curious to know if he made anything heavier. thanks hye spence 07-07-2008, 06:01 PM I thought the one he gave me was 2 or 2.5 ounces. -spence hyefisherman2 07-07-2008, 06:11 PM so he only made one size? if so then it must be 1.5... In The Surf 07-07-2008, 06:22 PM At least 3 sizes that I know of. I was familiar with the 2½ and a larger one (can't remember if it was 3 or 3½), then I saw a narrower one which must have been 1½. hyefisherman2 07-07-2008, 06:23 PM ok thank you in the surf. :) and i assume the bigger models also sink? am i correct? FishNH 07-07-2008, 07:24 PM I have 1.5oz and 2.5oz N&G's GattaFish 07-07-2008, 09:44 PM I have all three sizes,,, They all sink,,, best used in,,, big wind and big water,,,, My first two - both 2 1/2 oz John gave me out on Block Island I think in 2004,, One is all Chartreuse with a chartreuse bucktail dressed SS mustad. The other is Hot Pink with pink hackle. I can't say enough about how giving BOTH Habs and Tattoo was/are when it comes to sharing and giving. hyefisherman2 07-07-2008, 09:46 PM is there a way to make em float? other then pumping the rod really hard, and trying to keep it up on top by working it HARD? GattaFish 07-07-2008, 09:58 PM is there a way to make em float? other then pumping the rod really hard, and trying to keep it up on top by working it HARD? They can be fished a couple ways,,, In big wind and big water as soon as they hit the water start reeling,, They will work just below the surface and sometimes on top especially in a sideways wind...,,,, no need to work them that hard,,,or reel that fast. They can also be worked very slow almost along the bottom. The key is a pause after the cast then reeling it slow. Let the plug work for you,,, Most of all fish them with confidence. They work. If I was in CT I would take some pictures of all three sizes but I am stuck in Texas. But not for much longer. hyefisherman2 07-07-2008, 10:00 PM ok thank you sir. and what i noticed when i was working one this weekend (like a pencil) is that it swam right below the surface. kinda cool. scoobe 07-10-2008, 01:16 AM My first two - both 2 1/2 oz John gave me out on Block Island I think in 2004,, One is all Chartreuse with a chartreuse bucktail dressed SS mustad. The man also gave me a chartreuse one on the Block! I forget which year it was, though, but it coulda been 2004. bart 07-10-2008, 08:54 AM ok thank you sir. and what i noticed when i was working one this weekend (like a pencil) is that it swam right below the surface. kinda cool. nothing wrong with working it that way as well. a really good fisherman from RI makes his own stubby needles and fishes them this way. you almost snake them along.... Joe 07-10-2008, 02:31 PM Good in the fall at the begining of one of those line storms. wheresmy50 07-10-2008, 06:30 PM I've used the 2.5 successfully in big water and big wind, but I wouldn't use them if I could fish any other needle effectively. IMHO, these are for when it's too windy for Superstrike. . . But they definitely have their place and work when little else will. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
