Two great articles in this week's Fisherman. Rigging eels ,a new method by Bryan Oatley and Tim Coleman's drop-back method with bucktails. Both great ways to catch stripers, however, neither is used much anymore.

What's a drop back method with bucktails?

I hit Second Beach yesterday for a surf session (that's 44 years as of this summer) with an old buddy - sitting around in the sun we had a contest to see who had forgotten the least over the last nearly 50 years.

I won, but the margin was pretty #^$%## thin :rolleyes:

I thought it was pretty basic..Good to see U in the mag anyways..Seems that writing that basic stuff opens the pathway to getting the book thing done..Some things are better kept quite anyways.. Brian covered a few more bases with his article..There's plenty of eel tricks up the NIB sleeve..I should write a book now..Then see if I can get it published when I am too old to care..I could never let them out now..:err:

Saw the article and had always thought that cable ties would be the way to go as I've shied away from rigging eels. How do you attached the rear hook to the front one? Could I use the technique as I do with 2 hook sluggos when I do them "Mcenna" style?

yeah guys, great articles all around. I too was happy to see DZ in there and I enjoyed the article. I think DZmay have mentioned it here, but the part about the "cigar butts" was really interesting and since we don't have a huge blue population where I fish, I may find myself cutting them as you suggested!

I use doubled up 100lb dacron to connect the hooks.
Unless it's big water, I fish single hooked, smaller 12" riggies most of the time...

Now I gotta go out and buy the Fishernman to learn how to rig eels from Oatley.
