He sucks! Plain and simple! His stats are down over the last couple seasons, definitely no longer worth the $20,000,000 a year we are paying him and we sure do not want to pick up his option for another $20,000,000 for next season.....he is just not worth it! Bye Manny!

Who are we gonna get to replace him?? For similar money and similar stats??

BigFish

For $20,000,000 Mike.......is he worth that? I think not unless he is hitting 50 homers, driving in 150 runs and batting .330! You see Manny's clown act in the outfield last night??? Shameful! Have some pride in that uniform for cryin' out loud! We can do quite well without him I think! They can also do alot with that extra $20,000,000......did I mention Manny makes $20,000,000?

you gotta look at his body of work as a whole, not just a couple of years. I agree with remy and eck this conversation is aggravating mid season. And when the gobs of money he has, isn't enough already you can't help but lose a little respect for the guy. What does it REALLY matter after 160 million dollars is in your pocket?

BigFish
07-20-2008, 07:43 AM
He has already been paid for his "body of work as a whole".......now we are talking about the future! Last season he hit what.....25 homeruns???? As I said, for the money he is getting paid he should be hitting twice as many! You gonna pay a guy $20,000,000 dollars for what he has already accomplished????:smash:

2007 Manny hit 20 homers.....thats twenty!!!! 88 RBI and hit .296???? For that kind of money I can find mucho better player than 20/88/.296.

BigFish

Last season Varitek hit 17 homers, drove in 68 and hit .255! Those are almost "Manny" numbers.....he needs a raise!:hihi:

Don't forget to factor in the amount of time David Ortiz has been injured and not in the line up !

BigFish
07-20-2008, 10:24 AM
Whats Ortiz have to do with it Ronnie? You think Manny hits better with Ortiz behind him? Well if that were true, why did Manny have only 20 homers last year with a healthy Ortiz? Why does Manny have 19 homers this year with Ortiz out for so long???

Mike......I am not up on the free agent possibilities for the upcoming off season.....but there has to be someone, anyone who can hit 28 homers and drive in 100 for $10,000,000 or less?? We could just get another "Varitek" type hitter?!:tooth::tooth:

As far as I know, the Sox have options on Manny for the next 3 years so the choice is up to them.

BigFish

You guys keep answering a question with another question! Let me say it this way.....Is Manny worth $20,00,000? Period! I don not think the Sox are going to pick up an option on Manny that is going to pay him $20,000,000 a year for 2-3 years! He is 38 years old!!!! Heck they have already tried to unload him a couple times including putting him on waivers just to get out from under his inflated contract....and that was when his numbers were respectable!!! He is gone kiddies.....get used to it!

Isn't Manny on pace for 35 home runs and over 100 rbi this year, and how many games did he play last year?
Larry, I agree his time here is coming to an end but the Sox still need to replace him with someone
I beleive thay have the option after this year and next.Dont forget they signed Manny, what 7 or 8years ago for the $20 million a year...As unbelievable as it seems to sign someone of that caliber now would cost about $25 mill a year..

Dont need him and after that strikeout stunt let him go! :bs:
Lugo is gone too

, Crisp can play center, Elisbury left, Drew right, lowery SS.

Now, are we going to sign Teck? 1 year or 3?

Sorry....35 and 100 does not get you $25,000,000. As I said.....the Sox are not going to pick up his option....they wanted him gone a long time ago!

Larry..I didnt say they were gonna sign HIM FOR 25 MILL..His replacement will cost that..We shall see...Lets get rid of them all....

Hey Larry, Willy Mo will be a free agent next year.....we can get him back at a fraction of that 20 mil.

You've got a better chance of seeing Britney Spears drop 20 lbs, resurrect her career and win parent of the year than you do at seeing the Sox dish out $25 mil to replace The Bad Man.There's only one player in the majors that can command that kind of money and he's in pinstripes and isn't going anywhere. Two things come into play. How he finishes up the year (on and off the field) and who's out there to sign. Right now, there isn't much out there..And despite how much Masarotti at the Herald keeps pontificating,Bonds isn't the answer either..

Ellisbury

Is not about how much he is making is how much the owners are making by just having Manny in the team.Manny is a brand for the boston red sox.
Is just like A. ROD, this guy is a brand not a sportsman,A.Rod is nothing but this guy wants more and more for doing nothing, when this ignorance is going to stop? if there's one i'll fire in a heartbeat and :nailem:is COCO CRISP. i can't stand him.he is useless as my penn on my desk.
boston better sit down and fix their issues.
but coco gotta go.

You guys should go easy on Manny. Build him up, then tear him down. Im not here for the popularity contest, but he has earned his. Not to mention he is batting .486 in his last 10 games. You all need your lady bug pins.

Its all contract posturing anyway. I still believe he will not be here next year, whether by his choice or Theo's remains to be seen.

I don't think the choice is his, if the Sox have an option. Unless he can bully them into a trade.

His antics do get a little old but he did help them win 2 World Series, one of which he won MVP. He's been solid all the way through his contract. I believe they had to "settle' for him when the Sox were going after Mussina and he signed with the Yankees. 20 million is huge, but I doubt they'll lower ticket prices if his salary was gone. I say keep him right here. Him and Papi have been the best 3-4 punch in MLB, and Papi will be back tomorrow night protecting his spot in the line-up. I bet his production picks right back up.

Lugo's not going anywhere. I believe he has a contract through the 2010 season at 9 million per season. Unless there's a team stupid enough to take that contract on in a trade, get used to him!
