View Full Version : Effin' Bloos are in...
nightfighter 08-02-2008, 03:50 PM Had my biggest bluefish ever today, swallowed a whole pogie. Pulled it onboard and was was going to release it. As I put the hookout tool in his mouth, he got me good. Sliced the top of my workinghand index finger from first to second knuckle, deep. Now I'm bleeding good. First aid kit, wrap tightly with gauze. Cut the leader, pitched him, and headed to the mooring. 2.5 hour visit in the ER for cleansing, closing and antibiotics..... at least I talked them into the glue sutures.
So they're in. And I am gonna get one of Clammer's bloofish behavior modification tools onboard tomorrow!
ridler72 08-02-2008, 03:59 PM Dam, glad your alright. Look at the bright side Night, could have been much worse.
BigFish 08-02-2008, 04:00 PM Glad he left your fingers Ross! Any size?:heybaby:
nightfighter 08-02-2008, 04:10 PM Didn't measure, I was so pissed at myself.... maybe 34-35 inches???
Gotta change over to righty conventionals for tomorrow.... He got my lefthand, and I'm in a splint. The teeth just glanced me. I can't imagine if he had gotten a hold of me...
teezer 08-02-2008, 04:15 PM I had one get me a couple of years ago. The was not nearly as bad as yours but man did it bleed. It must have bleed for 2 hours.
Hope it heals up fast for you.
american spirit 08-02-2008, 04:57 PM ross that sucks. invest in waterproof bandages. they got this stuff called tegaderm that works good for keeping wounds clean and dry. let me know if you need any. maybe i'll see you at spot one night.
mikrok 08-03-2008, 12:36 AM what is clammer's bloofish behavior modification tool like?
TianaBeachDude 08-03-2008, 01:58 AM what is clammer's bloofish behavior modification tool like?
same question as the dude above
TBD
nightfighter 08-03-2008, 06:59 AM A hatchet......
Fishpart 08-03-2008, 07:04 AM what is clammer's bloofish behavior modification tool like?
If you forget the hatchet for some reason, a couple swings into the grapple anchor works too.
I met a nurse the other night and she told me that the newport hospital had a patient a few years ago who was 'de gloved' by a bluefish. The guy for what ever reason stuck his whole hand down the fish's mouth and the fish clamped down on him and his reflex was to pull back, which turned his hand inside out- his palm and top of his hand was tangling from his finger tips...
yuck..
MrHunters 08-03-2008, 08:04 AM experienced the same yesterday ross,up in gloucester, minus the almost lost finger. I already did that once and I don't want to repeat that fun any time soon. :cheers:
kenyee 08-03-2008, 08:06 AM The guy for what ever reason stuck his whole hand down the fish's mouth
Bet he was trying to retrieve a lure stuck in the fish's throat...
MotoXcowboy 08-03-2008, 08:46 AM when in doubt
:behead:
Peter D 08-03-2008, 08:53 AM Very first thing -- always give the blues the nightstick treatment!
Swimmer 08-03-2008, 10:11 AM Personally I always have my left hand clamped around boofishes gills, so it isn't going get the chance to do anything to me. I don't attempt anything with bluefish until head is secure.
BillM 08-03-2008, 10:27 AM It's amazing how affective those teeth are, especialy on rigged Sluggoes. You hardly feel the bump and then all the effort you put into rigging is snipped in half in a blink... YEAH-HIT 'M HARD!!
Clammer 08-03-2008, 12:09 PM NEVER>EVER >>.been bitten or sliced by one of them M/f #$%^&*()
I,d post photo,s /but the sh it would start again ;;
I find it hard to believe ,that seasoned fisherman / continue to get bit or hooked trying to get the hook out or release it ;;
guys bust my balls >>.but I really have to wonder on the lack of F#$%^&*( common sense used by>>.so>>called seasoned fisherman ;;

Never again.....promise.
Slipknot 08-03-2008, 12:41 PM crap Ross, did you bite him back?

it should heal quick
Raven 08-03-2008, 02:53 PM Ross even though it was cleaned professionally
in the O R i'd be real careful around fish blood
for about a week if i were you
heal up soon...
The Iceman 6 08-03-2008, 05:07 PM As Mikey would say "don't bring them in green"
BillM 08-05-2008, 09:20 PM Just when you think they are all done they try to kill you.It's a beautiful and natural thing about them.They are EVIL Thats why I love them they are the most exciting fish to catch.
baldwin 08-05-2008, 09:29 PM I've used super glue myself instead of going in for stitches. Would've saved you a few hours in the emergency room.
Circlehook 08-05-2008, 11:26 PM nine eels halved by blues tonight, it FOUR different locales.
Rick Ackley 08-06-2008, 05:52 AM Hope the wound heals well. Those bogas make a good subduer also. Couple a wacks across the forehead usually slows 'em down some.
BillM 08-06-2008, 06:37 AM When they shred all the eels thats when its time for the 3.5oz Robert's Ranger. Works for me.
Brother Brian 08-06-2008, 08:44 AM Nuff said !
Rockfish9 08-06-2008, 11:17 AM Glad your allright... hate 'em myself,I use an ARC dehooker on the lucky ones.. the rest become lobster bait.... S.O.B. 's made their way to the mouth of the Merrimack with a vengence last night.... I've got lobster bait for this afternoon.
KeyWest225 08-06-2008, 11:49 AM Had my line cut off while chunking yesterday in the Merrimack and my buddy was live lining a Mac and pulled it out of the water missing it's lower half. They love to do that to soft baits too but they are fun to catch.
