Patch system for breathables?

Last night while fishing an UDL with Bite Me and Mr. Striper I put a 2/0 treble through my waders in deep water while trying to tame an unruly dink fish.

What do you guys think is the best way to get at it? I was lucky, just a hole the size of the 4x 2/0 VMC wire, no tearing.

Use the little swatch of fabric that come with your waders (if you still have it) with some goop or aquaseal.

Ear wax, but be sure to pick the hairs out first.

"Marine Goop" and a patch of wader fabric has worked for me many times. Prep around the area to be patched by rinsing well and make sure completely dry to start. Scuff the area just a bit with some sand paper just like fixing a bike tire when we were young. Apply a smooth coninuous and even layer of Goop to both sides of the damaged area of your waders and coat the whole patch piece. Apply the patch to the outside of your waders. Make sure the patch is at least 1/2" larger than the hole/tear on all sides. Make sure you have a good even coat of the Goop on both sides and make the Goop go 1/2" beyond the patch size on teh outside and 1/2" outside the hole on the inside. LEt dry 24 hrs. I don;t care what the directions say...you need a full day to CURE not to DRY. You should then be all set.

I save the patch for tears I have fixed hook holes with goop alone.On the outside only.Do not attempt to do both sides at the same time if u go that route.goop runs like epoxy slow an steady till it starts to set up.mark the area u want to cover with a pen.A 2" daimeter of goop should do it. set your waders up so they will sit nice an flat.The directions say let dry over night which I always thought was a joke..I also use the activator/accelerator cotol 240..I Had a great pair of orvis waders lasted me quite a few years.They looked like someone had shot me with a machine gun loaded with goop..

Gorilla tape, I tried it once when I was fishing far from home. Lasted as long as the rest of the waders.

aqua seal.. BUT... clean hole with rubbing alcohol first. This will assure a good bond.

i third the aquae seal. My waders are gooped everywhere with that stuff. i will also cut some material off the very top of the wader to use as a patch.

I put a 5oz canal special through the crotch of my breathables three nights ago(fortunately I wasn't wearing them at the time) and employed the above technique. Works fine. If you need extra support, put some heavy duct tape over the repair. Works wonders. No leaks last night.

I put a couple of holes in mine and couldn't find Aquaseal at my local hardware store... so I bought a tube of Shoe Goo. So far so good.

Any or all the above adhesives should work just fine,

Well one thing I learned is that if the hole is small, meaning small enough to not warrant a ptach of material, the best and quickest method is a drop of Super Glue ( non water soluble like Zap-a-Gap) inside and out, the chemical reaction bonds to the materials and itself through the pin hole and hardens like rock.

The spot is maybe a 1/4 inch around the 1/8 inch puncture. Tested after a several hour cure and not a drop of water came through.

I rembered I did this on my first ever breathables and it worked slicker than shizit. On bigger stuff I will definetly do the aquaseal and patch gig. The Zap-a-Gap hole fixes outlasted the waders.

the disadvantage is the stiffness.
put a dab of seal over the hole inside and out. just in cast you bent it the wrong way...

I'm glad this thread is up. I have a hole in the booty of my breathables. how would you guys go about repairing that? I Tried super glue and it didn't work in fact may have made it worse. The booty is a neoprene type of material by the way.

neo needs the aquaseal treatment.

If you don't have the patch material that came with the waders I would sacrifice the inside pocket provided they have one.I've always found that pocket to be useless.
