View Full Version : WILD EYE SHAD BUNKER COLOR
StarsnStripers 11-12-2002, 07:16 PM This is weird. I go to boaters world and see golden mullet colored wildeye shads that say bunker on them. They do not remind me of bunker, (pic below). Did Storm make a mistake??? Plus, the sardine color is off, according to the site.
Are golden mullet around here, will the fish bite it?? I hope I didn;t blow my $ on the wrong lure.
The site says that these are golden mullet, though on my package bunker::confused:
DaveS 11-12-2002, 11:57 PM Of course it will work, I mean after all, we throw Pink needlefish and I aint never seen a pink sandeel lol. Seriously though, wiggle any color in front of a hungry stripah and it's gonna get stroked.
ragfly 11-13-2002, 07:03 AM The thing I found that works best about the wild eyes is the weight placement. It doesn't get hung on bottom as much. The wiggle action also works good too.
StarsnStripers 11-13-2002, 10:36 AM Oh, I see.
What is better for the bass and blues?? 4" or 5"??
shore manic 11-13-2002, 11:49 AM that doesn't look like the bunker color they have small black horizontal lines along the body.at $4 and more i wouldn't even think of using them for blues they cut the tail off and are useless after that.i haven't tried the 5" but i know they sure do love the 6
StarsnStripers 11-13-2002, 11:56 AM but a 2-4 pound schoolie couldn'y fit the 6" in his mouth comfortably, right? Will they attack a bait of that size in the winter time @ the power plant?
ragfly 11-13-2002, 12:52 PM Well the size all depends. I fish rivers alot and the current is strong so to get the wild eye on bottom I use the 6". But if I am in shallow water and the bait fish are around 4" that's what I use. So it all depends on the situation and the bait size that is around. I wouldn't use them on Blues, the cheap rubber shad work just as good.
StarsnStripers 11-13-2002, 12:56 PM Ragfly, first-off, why would you want to get the baits to the bottom??
Second,
The cheap rubber shads are just as good?? I should be buying those instead of these wild eyes?? Or are the wild eyes better on stripers and the cheap rubber shads just as good on blues?
shore manic 11-13-2002, 11:17 PM i had a striper maybe 13"inhale that 6"with nothing showing out of it's mouth!! used hook remover and off it went to grow some more! i'm gonna buy a case of em'for next year.i told ya before the stripers love them.
ragfly 11-14-2002, 06:58 AM SnS: I want the wild eye on bottom because the stripers are on the bottom, not suspended. As for the cheaper shads, blues are alot less picky when it comes to bait and secondly I am not fishing bottom like I am for stripers. I would rather loose the cheap ones. This summer when the blues were hitting hard my buddy and I fished the rubber shads on them. He used the wild eyes and I used the cheap one's (after I lost a few wild eyes). After I switched over we caught the same amount of blues. The only difference was his wallet was going to be lighter after he went and restocked his wild eye supply.
StarsnStripers 11-14-2002, 03:19 PM I see ragfly....
What color/pattern of rubber shads do you think most effective on the blues??
What color jigheads are most effective??
I am going to pick some up, so I can save my wild eyes for the stripers....:D
Christian 11-14-2002, 05:13 PM my favorite wild eyes are the shad color in 5". outfished everyone at my spot at black creek when they were using regular jig heads with shad bodys, but i think it was probally a size thing, the herring swimming in the creek were huge and their lures were dinky. still those cheap shad bodies are one of the best lures ive ever used. i like to use bullet jig heads unpainted because they are cheaper and work fine. TIP: use shad bodies unwieghted as teasers for cod fishing.
StarsnStripers 11-14-2002, 09:16 PM Christian, what color of cheap rubber shad are best??
I have the Powerbait Power Pogys white but they glow at night,
Will this do???? And on an unpainted bullet jighead??
Christian 11-15-2002, 03:08 PM pearl, pearl w/ black, pearl w/blue. ever try fin-es fish or sluggos? their good. any type of jig head is good. unpainted/painted bullet/triangle any of them are good. i dont know about glowing but where did you get those, i bet there good for cod.
ragfly 11-15-2002, 07:37 PM Chartruese, white and black over white are the most productive cheap shad colors for me. I use the same color heads. Be sure to sharpen them hooks on the cheap jig heads. Wild eyes are needle sharp out of the bag.
