Reading Flap's post on his blow out in his waders got me to thinking about many moons past[early days for you newbies] when fishing the outside beaches, when men were men and only want to fight instead of looking for a marrage lisc. You rarely saw anyone wareing BOOTS be it hip/waders ...rolled up pants was the outfit..now you would think with all the new high fangled rods/ reels and lines of today no one would even need any kind of skin gun to keep them dry cause they can cast better and further then ever before...so! whats the deal..are the fisherman of today afraid they may melt if they get abit wet or is it because their trying to make a fashion statement to lure in more then just fish.

At 3am the last thing I want to do is change cloths.Off the waders, head home, rinse waders and gear.Wash my hands, maybe eat something and then sleepy time.

When the air and/or water is cold they keep you warm and dry.Wet and cold can lead to hypothermia and/or sickness.

If I wanna get wet I go swimming.

Fashion?Who the hell is really going to see you in the dark?

Were waders readily available to everyone back in the early days? I might be able to cast further but I still have to walk my schoolie back into the water to revive/release the fish rather than throw it in from 10 feet away. I guess if I kept everything I caught it wouldn't be an issue. I'll take today anyday.

When men were men and it was the fall run and you were 6'-6" you wore Servus Company waders and they didn't come in tall sizes so your waders crotch was 8 inches below your own.

Made for some fancy maneuvering racing up the beach to avoid a big roller. More like duck wadling than walking.

Always kept a small can of Johnsons baby powder handy when putting them on. If it was warm and you were wearing shorts and you didn't sprinkle in some powder them Servus rubber waders would take every hair off your leg going in, ooh, eeh ouch!

I remember those 40 lb black intertube wada's/skin guns..by the time you hit the waters edge you've lost 10 pints of water..pee-u..come to think about it you may as well have gone without...but boy were we stylein.....point being the old crew got fish without getting soaked with their old fashioned gear...do folks today need more practice castin?....when on the beach do as the peeps do..run like ell when the wave goes back down an back peddle when she rolls in again....an what the heck is swishin?

I'm shure the native americans thought the same when they saw a guy on the beach with a fishing pole must of thought why not use a spear or net like the rest of us.Things change and always will guess its part of life.:lurk:

I fished in my jeans tonight, with my corkers strapped to my old Nikes.I guess my fashion statement was "I left my waders out in the rain and now they're full of water " when they dry out I'll go back to my old fashion statement " I'm fishing"

I hate waders during the summer (daytime) but i hate a wet crotch even more. Thank God for waders.

lightweight shorts, socks and old running shoes until the water and/or air gets colder that being said, on a windless night, the no-see-ums chow down on my legs if im out on a rock. Waders are good for more than just waterproofing at times
